Is it customary/normal/necessary to invite Groomsmens' wives to the bridal shower?
FMIL suggested this and I never heard of it (she lives in AZ but from NY originally).
Background info there are two groomsmen and they live in both utah and az. I have met wives on several occasions. One I email with on and off. One I myspace with but not often. I am wondering if they will think this is weird. Also I know they cannot come bc they are so far! Finally I don't want them to wonder why they r invited...then ask other friends wives if they r invited...etc, etc!
Ok so what should I do? I am leaning towards just doing it.

if they were local i would say yes (and i'm sure you'd be better friends with them then) but since they live far i would let it be, their spending enough on your wedding to fly out and be here for the actual day, they dont really need to spend more money on a shower gift.......if they ever bring it up just tell them that you kept it very small to family and very close friends only

Re: Bridal shower question with poll
I am only inviting the women who I am close too. Not just b.c I speak with them on occasion? Otherwise that would be almost all the women invited to the wedding. I personally like a more intimate shower where its who I am closest to. Does that make sense? I mean its your shower...so go crazy

I agree, but I also don't think they'd find it strange if you do decide to invite them. So it's your call!

i would agree with that. I'm sure they'll appreciate the invite, and if they can't make it, well, at least you tried. I can't speak from experience, none of the guys in our bridal party were married. only one even had a girlfriend!

Re: Bridal shower question with poll
My sister was invited to a shower (same situation...her bf - not even fh at the time...was in the wedding party). She did not know the bride AT ALL and was totally baffled.
You are right though...they are spending so much to come here. But FH has done alot for them...when he was in their weddings he had to fly in, gave more than a generous gift, send presents for their kids, etc. Anyway, I think I will leave it as is and if they dont come (I know they wont come) or dont send a gift...oh well! No hard feelings!

While I do feel that this is normal...I invited some gm's wives who I'm friendly with, but they are by no means my good friends (and neither of them came..1 was away, the other was working) but if they live far away and you know they can't come, than I feel it looks like you're asking for a gift. If I was invited to a shower that the bride or family knew i couldn't attend because of the distance, I would feel obligated to send a gift. JMHO
