BRIDES BEWARE OF SCAMS!!!!!

OK, you guys remember I put my dress on ebay a few days ago. I had 3 interested people in the dress including 2 that were very eager to buy the dress right away. I thought the two poeple were the same person because they asked me the exact same questions, had a bad command of the English language and wanted to pay for it the same way. They both wanted to send me a cashier's check in a higher amount thatn the dress. Wanted me to take the $$ for the dress and then wire the money back to another person. I realized that it was 2 different people I was talking to so I said to one, I can only sell the dress to one person. OK so make the long story short. I was a bit suspicious because WHO in this world today will trust a complete stranger to give them 2,900 and expect them to wire back 1,900 back???
Why would they trust me??? But yes I have faith in good people in this planet, I thought it just might be someone acting on behalf of a buyer and they were just gonna make their commission. ANYWHO.....The check arrived yesterday. They gave me 2 set of directions. First I was to wire the money back to some girl...Then the day I got the check I was supposed to wire the money to another guy in NYC.....Then TODAY she wants me to wire the money to anohter person....I got a call from my bank today saying there is a problem with the check!!! I am TICKED OFF!!!!!! I am getting married in 3 months and I need to know If I'm wearing this dress or selling it to get the new one....I called the FBI and I reported this person!!!!!
Beware girls of scams like this!!! Now Thank Goodness I did not go to a cash checking place (which was one of the directions she gave me) cash this check and then wire the money to whoever....Then the check is bad and they would come after me!!!!! I am sooooooooo upset right now!!!!!! I really wanted to get the new dress but I guess I will just have to wear this one...which is a VERY nice dress don't get me wrong, I'm just not 100% about it....Anyway please be careful with rotten people like this!!!!

These kind of things are very common, most often they originate in foreign countries. It is sad to say that you cannot trust anyone. Somone I know lost $1500 by posting a sofa on Craigslist and getting played by an a$$hole from Nigeria. Same deal.........I will send you a cashiers check, you deposit it and send wire me the cash........
Unfortunately western union is exempt and customers transfer at their own risk. It is very sad.

i rarely post but i have to respond here. I am a criminal attorney and yes, this is VERY common! Most of these scams originate in Nigeria and many of my clients have been arrested because they 'fell' for the scam. If you go to the Newyorker website and do a search, you will find a very interesting article regarding a man who ended up serving time because he got so involved. These people often lure people on roomate match web sites. Whenever someone requests that you cash a check for them and then wire a portion of the money back, do not do it....you will get into trouble that is hard to get out of.

yea this happens a lot... never listen to the 'bad english' people... they always send fake e-mails.. i think if you cash the check maybe somehow they can get your information or something... & never give personal information to an e-mail from paypal that has all mispelled words... my FH has gotten that many times and got his ebay account tossed for a little while because of it!

Re: BRIDES BEWARE OF SCAMS!!!!!

Sweetie, thankfully you were suspicious of this crazy activity!! It is a total scam. I am seeing more and more people everyday coming into the precinct that I work in, to try and make a poilce report for Grand Larceny for this same scam- whether it be thru eBay or just thru an email scam. It is kind of a cloudy subject but I think the bottom line is that the local police do not do anything- it's a civil matter. Usually, the check clears but then several days later, your bank comes back and says that the check was bad- after it had originally cleared!!

If you sell on eBay- I would only take Pay Pal or a Postal Money Order. Be careful!! Luckily, you are one smart cookie!! Keep your chin up. Repost that dress on eBay and get yourself a real buyer!! Good luck!

Re: BRIDES BEWARE OF SCAMS!!!!!

That kind of scam happens very often. Please girls remember when using ebay NEVER WIRE MONEY.

A scam like that happened to a dear friend of mine to wire money. He reported it and it ended up being a scam artist - please do not WIRE MONEY
