Brides in Cocktail Hour??

Original post by MrsRichie2b

I have heard mixed feelings about the bride going into cocktail hour-

some say its better to get saying hello over with in the cocktail hour and cuts down on having to go table to table.. other people say you really shouldnt show yourself until you are introduced.

I dont know what is better.... Opinions?

Thanks Girls!!!!!

I DONT KNOW I KINDA WANT TO MAKE OUR GRAND ENTRANCE I ALSO KNOW IF I GO TO COCKTAIL I WONT EAT BC I WILL BE TOO BUSY SAYING HELLO . I DONT THINK I WILL GO I THINK I WILL TAKE THAT TIME IF WE ARE NOT FINISHED UP WITH PICTURES TO CHILL AND RELAX, WE ARE HAVING A REALLY LONG DAY BEFORE THE RECEPTION

I wanted to go - we had full intent on showing. We even extended our cocktail hour 1/2 hr more. Problem* - We did not c each other bfr Ceremony to take pix and we had to utilize all the time for our photos, and since our wedding was outdoors the sun was starting to set so we had to use every second of light.

I wouldn't of changed a thing just so that I could have mingled w/guests cause I really wanted my DH to be WOWED when I first came down the isle. I am a hopeless romantic.

It is all relative as to what your going for and what is most important to you.

I talked to a coworker who used to be a bridal attendant for several years about that. She said that the bride should definately get out during cocktail hour and greet her guests so she has the rest of the night to relax and enjoy the wedding.

We are definately going to be at our cocktail hour. We would not want to miss it and I love that I get to start to talk to people.

Just discussed it with FH and we are going to attend a portion of the cocktail hour and then spend some quiet time alone.

FH and I both love CH - and I know he's not thinking about it but I want to get as much greeting out of the way as possible. We're doing pics before the ceremony too.

I'm def using the cocktail hour to greet everyone, 'cause I wanna spend as much time as I can on the dance floor!

This is exacty what i'm thinking you spend all this time and mone planning your wedding and some ppl dont even have time to enjoy it... I will definately be at my cocktail hr to spend as much time having fun on that dance floor,,

I went to the last 40 minutes of my cocktail hour, and I'm so glad I got to be there & see what was going on & start saying hi to to everyone.

I care way more about the CH than our 'entrance' especially since FH and his family are from OOT and have never been to a NY wedding. I wouldn't want to take the CH experience away from them -- I want to knock their socks off

I'd still take pictures before and go to our CH even if we couldn't make an 'entrance' into the ballroom at all! Plus, they've all seen us at the ceremony anyway

We are definately going to our cocktail hour. It's the best part of the wedding! As a matter of fact, we are having out pictures taken before the ceremony so we don't miss the CH.

it was fun waiting - but honestly, saying hello to people took up SO much time that we could've been out on the dance floor. of course AFTER all was said and done my mom was like 'it's YOUR day - let them come to you & say hello!'...but i will say it was nice to personally see everyone that was there... my advice - yes it was fun to wait, but if u can get it out of the way do it! lol. Maybe go into ur cocktail hour at the start of it & then run off to the bridal suite for atleast a little while??

DH and I went and we're glad we did. We didn't hang out the entire time, but pretty close to it. We mingled with guests and it was our only chance to get some large group photos with our extended family.

We are DEF NOT going to the cocktail hour....we are doing are photos at that time plus we will have the same food served in the bridal suite and I want that special moment when we are introduced as Husband and Wife.

Re: Brides in Cocktail Hour??

Brides I NEVER missed any time on the Dance Floor at any given moment just b/c I didn't go to my cocktail hour. I said Hello to everyone, granted I didn't get to spend long amounts of time at every table but we just set a time limit to each table and when I felt it getting over the 'time limit' we set I would squeeze my DH hand and we would move on!

Most all of our guests came to us that wanted more time w/us and they all Danced w/us on the dance floor as well.

Don't let that scare you to not seeing everyone or talking w/everyone for long periods of time. Most guests understand the cicumstances anyway.

It is all relative to what you vision for you day.
Mine was having my DH see me for the first time walking down the isle - I always wanted him to remember that feeling and vision , so that took away the time for photos during the cocktail hour.

Oh well.
