Re: brides wearing ivory??
I think LOTS of brides wear ivory. It is nearly the same thing as white, I don't see it as a big deal at all!

Re: brides wearing ivory??
i am wearing ivory - and i had to fight my parents tooth and nail when i told them that was the color i wanted. but when they saw me in my dress - they were both stunned. i wanted ivory for many reasons - but one also being that it is a nicer color on me than stark white.
remember also their are vairations of white - like diamond white - which are not so harsh for pale people.
anyway - no i dont think its taboo - i think you need to do what is rigth for you.

i agree that it is about what looks best on me, but i find it funny that some see this as breaking tradition. any shade of white on me is scary

I totally agree, mine's off-white/ivoryish and I found it to be much more flattering than stark white on me.

Re: brides wearing ivory??
I think it's very popular NOW, but I can tell you fh said to me the other day
'what kind of a wedding is this' b/c my dress and the flowergirls dresses are not white.
then, one of the groomsmen asked him 'is anything in your wedding 'normal'' b/c of the ivory 'situation' and also b/c they are not wearing tuxes...
it's starting to upset me a little...is the WHOLE CHURCH going to be up in arms b/c my dress is a few shades off WHITE!

I cannot wear white. I look like death. Too stark for me. I never even thought twice about my dress not being white. It looks beautiful and it still is a wedding dress.

My dress is ivory. I am way too pale to wear white. It totally washes me out.

IMO, no one will ever know the difference between ivory and white unless you tell them.
My ivory dress looks white to me

My dress is raw silk - it doesn't come in that 'PURE' white, so Ivory for me

Re: brides wearing ivory??
I tried my dress in both ivory and white. The first time it was ivory and the second time the same day but a different salon it was white. My MOH was like, 'There's something wrong here...it's not like when you tried it on before' It was the color. White looked horrible, so I went with the ivory. No regrets!

Re: brides wearing ivory??
Back in like the 50s brides would wear ivory if this wasn't their first marriage. But now a days woman realise that ivory can be more flatter on lighter skin tones. Some old timer made a comment to me that I better not wear a white dress on my wedding. She gave me some lecture that I didn't deserve the honor to wear pure white. LOL too bad she never saw my dress. It would have given that mean old bat a heart attack.

Re: brides wearing ivory??
Ivory is not considered taboo anymore except by some older and/or very conservative people. I think most people recognize that ivory and off-white colors are more flattering on many women than stark white. Colors that aren't in the white/ivory family are still fairly shocking to a lot of people, but for me I want the bride to feel as beautiful and special as she can, in whatever color.

Re: brides wearing ivory??
I'm wearing ivory/champagne and I love it. I'm sure there will be some snickers from the old-timers in my family. I always thought I would wear 'white' but it just totally washed me out and looked terrible. And I heard a few times that since raw fabrics don't come in true white that more and more dresses are in the shades of ivory and off-white. The horror!
