Brides without a Father

Who is walking you down the aisle?

I just asked my older brother today. I was really unsure about asking him or just doing it alone. He sounded a little nervous...

I'm having my only (older) brother walk me down the aisle. I really wanted to walk alone, but a few people talked me out of it. It was kind of akward to ask him because we aren't close, but its done.

My mom is walking me down. I have 6 sisters but no brothers so that brother thing was out of the question and I couldn't think of anyone more important than my mom

Now the only problem is making it down the aisle. My dad only passed away last year so it is so fresh that my mom and I are gonna be a mess

I am having my younger brother walk me down the aisle. He is so honored to be doing it.

My father passed away eleven years ago. My godfather will be walking me down the aisle. He is so happy to be walking his goddaughter down the aisle.
We are getting married at West Sayville Country Club. My dad worked there through Suffolk County Dept of Parks. He took care of the golf course and the green house for years and years. We know that he will be there in spirit.

I feel like we're in the same exact situation. I am not super close with my brother...I love him, but really procrastinated asking him...I was also talked out of walking alone...FH said he spoke to my brother about the tuxes and my brother sounded really happy...

Are you doing a spotlight dance w/your brother. I doubt that I am.

I was going to have my Godfather do it but then realized my mom is the one that raised me and should get the honor. She's a little nervous but I think she's really happy to do it. My dad died when I was 12 so I always knew I wouldn't have him to walk me. My godfather is going to do my 'father/daughter' dance with me though.

No Way! That would be totally awkward for both of us!

Re: Brides without a Father

My dad passed away 9 years ago.......I have 2 half brothers- one is in a wheelchair and the other one stopped talking to my dad probably 10 years before he passed (he resented his 2nd family- meaning me & my sis....and I doubt he'll even come to the wedding).

FFIL offered to walk me down as soon as we got engaged, I was touched but I told him I hadn't really thought about it yet. I was thinking of asking my mom's brother, but he's in Finland and I'm not sure if he's coming yet! So I think I will ask FFIL if he still wants to, b/c after all, I'm actually closer with him than I am with my own uncle (since he lives in FInland). I just hope its not weird that FH's dad is essentially 'giving me away' to his own son lol......but I guess that was a more important symbol back in the old days anyway!!

Aww Helen!! Your FFIL is too sweet! part of me considered my FFIL too because I adore him. We'll just have a special dance at the reception,

My dad (stepdad but he raised me) passed 3 years ago...at first I thought I wanted to walk alone in memory of him. This bothered my mom- she thought it looked so 'sad'...yet she isn't wild about the look of a woman walking another woman down the aisle! If you remember my post about my mom and the veil...you'll know she's very traditional.

So...being that my brothers-in-law and I are very close- one of them I've known since I was 9...they are pretty much my brothers at this point. I wanted to find a way to have them involved since they're not in the BP (FH is only having his 2 best friends, not even his brother)I might have one walk me half way and the other finish it up. Still wondering how I'll ask them.

BunnyBride (Diane) suggested I have my 10 year old nephew walk me down the aisle but I would be a MESS! That kid is my world...and he would be the closest thing to my dad, as they were truly best friends.

This walking down the aisle predicament s ucks.

My sons walked me down the aisle. If I did not have sons... I honestly think I would have walked alone.

I did my parent/daughter dance with my best friend's father.

Re: Brides without a Father

My dad died 8 years ago about three months after FH and I started dating, but they never got to meet each other because my dad was in terrible shape and I didn't want FH to meet him because at that point it wasn't really him. In retrospect I'm not sure it was my best choice.

Anyway....my mom is walking me down the aisle!

Wow! I needed that vent!

I just want to say that I think all of you are so strong and I admire you so much for being able to get through something as hard as losing your dad (or in the case of those of you who aren't really on speaking terms with your dad, for growing up to be wonderful people in spite of any of the problems associated with that). I can't imagine life without my dad and my heart goes out to all of you.

My mom is walking me down the aisle bc I don't have any brothers.. and my twin sister is in the bp. It's my choice tho.. my father isn't invited. Just have the most important person to you walk with you.!!
