Brides without a Father

Re: Brides without a Father

I'm having my mom walk me down. She walked with my sis at her wedding. I wouldn't want anyone else. She's the BEST

So...being that my brothers-in-law and I are very close- one of them I've known since I was 9...they are pretty much my brothers at this point. I wanted to find a way to have them involved since they're not in the BP (FH is only having his 2 best friends, not even his brother)I might have one walk me half way and the other finish it up. Still wondering how I'll ask them.

BunnyBride (Diane) suggested I have my 10 year old nephew walk me down the aisle but I would be a MESS! That kid is my world...and he would be the closest thing to my dad, as they were truly best friends.

This walking down the aisle predicament s ucks.

I also have a 10 year old nephew whom I adore and thought about asking his parents (my sis and her husband) if they would mind me asking him, but then I thought what a slap in the face that would be to my brother...

I was nervous to ask my brother though...I don't know why...I felt a lot of pressure to ask him and it was an added stress to ask someone to 'give you away-'Dads just usually assume that position...

GettinHutched is 100% correct: This walking down the aisle predicament s ucks...

in our culture, it' traditional for the bride and groom to walk down the isle together...

if I were going the American route, definitely mom....

awww Tara!! that is so sweet!! the thought of you & your nephew walking down!! but I can really see how that would make it harder for you since your dad & him were so close!!

It's funny to me how I've coped with being the strong one for so long without my dad.....I don't think I'll get overly emotional on my wedding day (at least I hope I won't)......but reading about the other girls here whose dad's have passed, or just haven't been in their life.....it just makes me choke up!!! I think all of us who have suffered such monumental losses have made ourselves stronger in so many ways......at least for me losing my dad when I was 17 definitely gave me some character. God bless us all!! we are some strong women!!!!

This is horible because I am sitting here with tears in my eyes. My dad passed away in 1995 and my mom is not coming. She lives in Ghana at the moment. Anyhow I will have no parents at the wedding. I have 2 brothers and one keeps asking me if he could walk me down the aisle. Somehow I don't know who I want. I feel like God has been my father since I was 14 and no man could ever walk in his place. I do wish I could have my mom but such is life. You just suck it up and live. (Thats what I do and I am not suggesting that anyone else has do this either. )

You said it Helen. We will have to be strong this day. I think I've told you that I lost both of my parents. Even though it was 19 yrs ago, its still very hard!! Here's for you.

I'm sorry for your sadness. You can have both of your brothers walk you, or you can have one walk you 1/2 way and the other the second 1/2.

I am having my Mom walk me down...I lost that dear man 23 years ago,and while I have 4 brothers who I love dearly..it is my Mom who brought me to adulthood and has always stood by me right or wrong...so i thought she is my obvious choice.....many many to all out there in the same situation...but please know that they will be watching from above....

oh hon, don't feel so sad.... your mom will surely be thinking of you during that moment, and your dad will be there in spirit. and God will definitely be there..... likely not wanting you to walk alone,...

why not have both brothers walk you down the isle? they're obviously both rather supportive of you, or else they wouldn't have volunteered....

I lost my father in 04. My grandfather will be walking me.

my father died 1.5 years ago.

I am having my mother and my grandfather (who will be 86) walk me down the aisle.

I did not feel comfortable having my brother walk me down. If my grandfather can't do it (sometimes he has problems walking) I will either go down myself or with my mother.
