What is the most you would have your girls pay? I found a couple dresses I love and I'm concerned that they might be 'too expensive.' I hate asking people to spend money. I already have a BM who talks about having to save for the wedding on a regular basis. Hair and makeup is totally optional using my people, but I feel like such a bridezilla every time I talk to her because she is commenting on how expensive stuff is - even though shes already said shes not using the services.
Thoughts?

We are doing short dresses, and I would really love to keep them under 160 or 170... Some long dresses are like 250 or 300 dollars and I would feel terrible about making them spend that much on a dress

Most places will give your girls a discount on the cost of their dresses if you brought your dress from there...so make sure you push for that.

I'm in a wedding at the end of August and the dress was almost $400. While that is WAY out of my price range, she's one of my best friends so I didn't mind. I'm going to try my best to keep it under $200.

I aimed to cap the BM's dresses at $150. After looking, I realized it just wouldn't be possible, I didn't like ANY dresses in the range, and I spent more time looking at bridesmaids dresses than I did my own dress! I think my girls tried on every single satin BM gown in existence. Finally, I went back to BR Massapequa where I bought my gown, and I got a 15% discount through family, and I picked out a dress that was $230. After discount the price was just under $200 by a few dollars, and none of the girls complained.
I know BR offers a 10% discount on BM's if you've bought your gown there, you should ask your store about it!
BTW: I feel like girls complain about the cost of weddings until they plan one. My best friend got married last year and I complained about the cost of everything, every step of the way. (NEVER to the bride, just to FH) and now I realize that she really didn't ask much of us at all.

At least you didn't complain to the bride. It's not fun to be in that position. You end up feeling really bad & it kind of taints your experience.
But I agree about the dresses around $150. They just did not look as nice as the ones that were more expensive. Especially the long dresses.
I think you need to talk to this BM and just tell her that by her making comments about money, it is just making you feel really bad and you are trying your best to keep things within a certain budget, but here are certain things you can't help.

I'm looking to keep my bridesmaid dresses under $200. I am doing short bridesmaid dresses, hopefully my girls and I find something we love.

I'm probably going to just pick a color and then let them choose the dress. I would like to keep it under $100 and DB and a few others seem to have dresses in that price range.

I would like to keep it under $200 for my girls, but I want them in long dresses. So, I guess we'll have to shop around and see if that's realistic or not.

Our comes to $227 with tax. If they chose to do alterations at BR then it is capped at $115.
I think it is an average price. There were not many that were cheaper & the girls were happy with it.

I wanted to keep the dress under $200 and I happened to snag them at a trunk show so with tax they came to $170. I think that's fair for a long soft satin dress. None of the girls complained - to me at least! LOL

I'm going to try to keep them under $200. I'm going to check out 'Here Comes the Bridesmaid' in the city, because I've heard that they are the most inexpensive around.
BUT, I also think that some girls just complain to complain. I have 2 BMs that do this. One complains that she has no money all the time because she has to put away money so she can 'afford to be part of' my wedding (thanks for the favor lol), and one has already told me that she's not going to get her hair or makeup done.
I haven't spoken to either about this, because, to be honest, I'm just not up for the argument right now. But I do plan to tell them that they knew my expectations of them when they accepted my request for them to be BMs.
I wouldn't worry too much about it as long as you're being reasonable
