It took me a while to finally get my bridemaids into a store to look for their dresses. I was wondering, is it traditional that the bride must be there the first visit to 'guide' the BMs?
I'm a very hands off bride and told the girls to go there before me and I'll meet up towards the end of their appointment(after work). However, the place wouldn't let the girls look at the dresses without me there on the first visit! I was told that 'the Bride leads the selection of the maid dresses'. And since I got there late and the store was closing in 30 minutes, none of the girls could try on anything and had to schedule another appointment! So we did a quick browse for 10 minutes, I (pretend) picked out some dresses and the some of the girls went back the next day to try on the ones I picked.
I'm happy with the dress designs but it's been bugging me. I just want to know if that's a 'real' rule or just some made up b.s.

Sounds like BS to me too! Ive never heard of this though it wouldnt shock me since most brides want to choose the dress or have chosen a dress. I know I had to be there so I could give them my wedding information for the girls

Sounds like BS!! They should be able to go in and look and try on the dresses without you there. EWven if they ned your info. You were coming in after they could get it then.

Sounds like BS to me too. I went w/ my mom once and didn't tell anyone if I was a bride or BM. No one bothered to ask.

Re: bridesmaid dress shopping question....
I have gone with my girls so many times and they've never asked until we were about to leave. My girls like hesitate to pick a dress out unless I say, 'ooh how about this?' then they say, 'Oh yeah, I'll try it.' I am glad you have some help in the selection department!!

Thanks you guys for all the replies!
I thought they were just being a snot about it and tried to excuse it as it was just the company's snobby policy. I was starting to blame myself for not being the 'traditional' bride.

Re: bridesmaid dress shopping question....
they made my bridesmaids sit in the waiting area until i got there too! then we were allowed inside to look at dresses.
