Bridesmaid - I need your honest opinion

Bridesmaid - I need your honest opinion

So my cousin lives in south carolina and is one of my bridesmaids . . she's been struggling with her weight for the past couple of years and is trying to lose weight before my wedding. She's coming to visit in April and we planned on going BM dress shopping then so that she could order her dress while she was here. She just emailed me wanting to know if she could wait until SEPTEMBER to order her dress when she comes to visit (which I'm assuming is when my shower will be - nice give away haha).

I told her that I think its just going to be way too late but now she is upset - Should I just let her order it late and have to pay rush fees? I can't make all my BMs do that, so they would have to order them separately - does it really matter if they come from the same 'batch'?? I don't want to be bridezilla

Hmmm i'd say that ordering them in Sept is cutting it REALLY close..i'd just tell her to order it in April, then if she does lose the weight, have her get measured when she comes back in sept and it can be altered...
I'd just freak out a lil waiting until barely 2 months before JMO

I think that is way too long to wait. She should order the dress in a larger size and then she can have it altered in September.

Yeah, it freaks me out too - I think she's just hoping to lose a LOT of weight. . .she was really skinny and then gained like 40 pounds really quickly - I understand where she is coming from, but I just think its too close.

um, i think September is too late. what if the dress is delayed, comes in wrong, etc?

Just tell her to order it now and they can just take it in. They are going to charge her no matter what for alterations and honestly I don't understand why people need to hold everyone up because of their own weight issues.

I am not thin and i realized okay order the dress that fits you now and then when it came in they had to take it in A LOT but hey its better then getting stuck with a dress too small and looks horrible.

The only way she should wait is if she is doing a dramatic weight loss where she had surgery and its dropping 50-75 before the wedding.

I agree, September is cutting it close.

Blame it on the store and tell her if she orders late that there is a rush fee.

Better that she orders now, gets the dress on time and has to have it cut down... rather than ordering later, not getting it in time and then rushing to find something else or paying A LOT to get it done in time.

yea id tell her to order it at the size she is in april... a lot easier to take a dress in that let it out, or get it so close to the date...

also - i think just as an aside - i think a lot of people order all the dresses together to make sure that they are all the exact color.. if order is later it may be they use a slighlty different variation???

can anyone confirm that??

I wouldn't order it in September-- thats cutting it really close and from what I know, the dye lots can be a few shades different from batch to batch, so her dress may be a different color.

And you are NOT being a bridezilla!!!

If she can't make it for the original date, then she is just going to have to order it late. Just make sure that whatever dress you pick, is 'orderable' at such a late date! Also, Not everyone has to go at the same time, she just might not have a pick at which dress she likes....No Biggie!!!

NO! Tell her that it's cutting it too close. If she looses more weight, the dress can be taken in. Tell her your sympathetic to her situation because hey, we're all fighting the good fight with the weight, right??

that's cutting it very close to order a dress.
If there are any issues or mistakes there is no room time wise to deal with them.

Tell her that you can order them in April and that seamstresses are in fact miracle workers who can take a dress in 2 sizes with no problem.

Ahhhh!!! Didn't think about the dye lots (each 'batch' of dresses might come in a slightly different shade) - Maybe she should just order it at the same time as the others!!!

Thanks girls - I felt so bad and wasn't sure if I was being too anal. . .I told her if she really expected to lose that much that she should order it a size smaller - which I know is risky, but the stores usually order them big anyway.

I feel her pain

Ordering it in september is really cutting it close. I mean they tell you you need 3-4 months atleast. So only 2 months before is really close. I would be very worried that it wouldn't come in on time. I would talk to her. I mean she can always pick it out wihile she is up here and maybe order it in july.

I absolutely agree, you are not being a bridezilla! My wedding is in August and I was told by the bridal store to order the dresses no later than mid march and to order them at once to make sure they are the same shade.... This way if anything happens to the order or to one of the dresses then there is time to fix it. September is really really close....

Yeah - she could probably just call the bridal shop with her measurements before they put in the order, right?

i would be afraid to order them that late because they need time for it to come in and then time for fittings..

Re: Bridesmaid - I need your honest opinion

I agree with all the other ladies, September is way too late to order the dress. There are too many things that can go wrong and being so close you won't have too many options open to you.

As we all are told, it's easier to take in a dress than let it out so have her order it in her current size and work from there.
