Bridesmaids of all shapes and sizes ...

Does anyone have any suggestions of designers/stores that can flatter all body types. My bridesmaids are all very different, and I don`t want anyone to feel uncomfortable in their dresses. I`ve thought about doing mix and match separates, but I haven`t seen all that much out there. Any ideas?

there are lots of mix and match sets now...personally, I don't think that would flatter all body types, so I didn't choose that for my bridesmaids. What I figured was if someone has a big waist, the top part of the mix and match set usually falls right where the waist is, and it wouldn't be flattering at all. They say A-line dresses are the best for all shapes and sizes. If you go to the knot.com, they give you tutorials on dresses, for you and your bridesmaids!!

Consider picking a material and color and letting your bridesmaides choose their own style which will flatter them from the mix and match styles. Or you could choose a specific color and length and let them buy their own dresses. I have been a bridesmaid @ 5 times now and I have 5 dresses in my closet that I will never wear again.

A-line skirts are the right way to go. I think seperates are best. I was in 2 weddings last year (I was even 7 months pregnant for one) & we did the seperate thing & it looked good on all the girls.

What we did....

I had a maid of honor that is a size 4 or 6, with a 24' waist, and my bridesmaids were a size 10-12, and a size 18+. To make it worse, one was in Chicago, another in California, and one in NY - I was in Boston. We ended up sewing our own skirts out of a coffee-colored duponi silk, and a wide pinky-peach sash. It was a full, gathered skirt 3/4 length for a daytime spring wedding. We paired it up with an ivory silk tee-shirt style top from Talbots. At the very least, they'll be able to wear the shirts again, and the skirt style worked well for everyone.

I picked a color, a material and a mfg and am letting the girls pick a dres that flatters them. A couple of my friends recently did that and I loved it.

we picked 2 piece nicole miller outfits- strapless top and fishtail skirt. my bms range in size from 0 to 14 and it flattered everyone. the fishtail skirt is curvier so it was more flattering to a heavier girl than a straight sheath. also, as far as materials, i've noticed satin is the best for heavier bms.

Coming from a plus size bridesmaid and now Bride...

Not all manufactors carry larger sizes. I would have to agree that the A-line is the most flattering for all shapes. At my size the seperates would have looked horrible but most didn't even come in my size. The other problem is the sleeve length. Please just make sure all your girls are comfortable. I know it is your day, but the last thing you want is a friend or family member feeling awful on your day. To be honest if I was asked to wear a sleevless dress I would drop out of the wedding. The best manufactors I found for all sizes are: Mori Lee, Bridal Originals and Alfred Angelo. Good luck!
