Bringing own wine??? Vent

Bringing own wine??? Vent

Ok, I need some opinions on this I work for a small law office. A co-worker and I are both getting married this year and are inviting everyone from the office. The senior partner who is somewhat of a wine guru stated that he will be bringing his own wine to the wedding. Is his 'delicate palate' going to harmed by my liquor? Is his insinuating that we are going to have swill at the wedding? My co-worker is taking this much better than I am but I am pretty PI$$ED OFF!

Is this not rude? Am I going to have to pay a corkage charge because my guest is bring his own wine? Being that he's my boss (and I am HIS seceretary) there is no way I could bring this up to him.

Obviously I am not going to be serving $100 bottles of wine at my wedding but I am not having 'cheap' wine either. He will be sitting with the other co-workers at the wedding so the only ones who will really witness this behavior are them (fellow attorneys). Is there a delicate way to approach this or follow my gut and not even bring it up. If I told my mother this I think she would have a coniption!!!!

I would be totally annoyed with this too. I also work at a small law firm and can't imagine my boss doing something like this!

Some people never cease to amaze me with their rudeness!

It is rude, but sicen you can't discuss it with him, I would just pretend I didn't know about it. I think if you told the hall, you wouldbe charged a corage fee, but if this guy just shows up with his wine & you pretend either they will tell him he can't use it or he will schmooze the staff into opening it for him. I don't think they would charge you at that point. He should tip them for that, but not you.

He sounds liekthe type of guy that if you told him thw hall wouldn't allow it he'd laugh & say, of course they will, if I tip the maitre d.

I'd be annoyed but I'd ignore it because the people around him are going to realize he's being an a$$.

We are bringing our homemade wine probably... and my hall had no problem with it. Most thought it was cute.

But yeah, this isn't a BYO restaurant! that's rude!

Like I say to my students, oh, I see you have (insert food or drink item here)? I hope you brought enough for everyone?

If he's so put out he should offer to buy wine for the entire reception...

R-U-D-E!!!

Do I got to people's houses and bring my own food because I don't like what they are serving?

Tell him your hall won't allow it and if he can't drink your wine either a) stay sober or b) don't come! What an arrogant b*stard!!!

My opinion on this is that this guy is a pompous a$$. Regardless of how great his wine is, he is a guest at your wedding and should just graciously accept the food and drink you are offering.

Unfortunately, I think saying something about it, or calling any more attention to it would just not be worth the fallout. I would also just pretend I knew nothing about it and let the Matre'd handle it, that is their job, not yours. And by the wedding day, you will have already paid your bill in full. If there is a corkage fee, your boss will probably end up being asked for it.

I guess I'm the only one who thinks that he should also bring a few extra bottles in case anyone else wants to try it, a cork screw and to make sure one bottle was left at the dais for my FH and I

Some people are like that... Of all the things to worry about at our weddings, does a bottle of wine have to ruin it for ya?! Just make sure you have fun and everything will fall into place.

Maybe if he's this tacky he'll bring his own corkscrew!

This is definately rude with a capital R

Being that you can't say anything because of the situation, let him bring it and let him deal with the wait staff when they tell him that they cannot open. If he persists let him deal with getting them to open his 'precious' wine...

I totally agree. It demonstrates a complete lack of social awareness and a serious case of 'pretentious.'

WHAT? Who do people think they are? How insulting!

You just have to ignore it, but if he mentions it again, I would say something, in jest, but with a lot of meaning behind it. If my boss ever said that to me, which he wouldn't, I'd ask him if he'd like to see the menue beforehand just in case he wants to bring his own food! What a jerk!

I can't believe someone who is savvy enough to be a wine conossieur doesn't travel in circles well-heeled enough to know that you don't bring your own wine to a wedding! Jackass. It's rude and insulting at the same time. I hope he's kidding. Or I hope he surprises you with a bottle of good wine for everyone.
