Bringing own wine??? Vent

Original post by halfpintny

Ok, I need some opinions on this I work for a small law office. A co-worker and I are both getting married this year and are inviting everyone from the office. The senior partner who is somewhat of a wine guru stated that he will be bringing his own wine to the wedding. Is his 'delicate palate' going to harmed by my liquor? Is his insinuating that we are going to have swill at the wedding? My co-worker is taking this much better than I am but I am pretty PI$$ED OFF!

Is this not rude? Am I going to have to pay a corkage charge because my guest is bring his own wine? Being that he's my boss (and I am HIS seceretary) there is no way I could bring this up to him.

Obviously I am not going to be serving $100 bottles of wine at my wedding but I am not having 'cheap' wine either. He will be sitting with the other co-workers at the wedding so the only ones who will really witness this behavior are them (fellow attorneys). Is there a delicate way to approach this or follow my gut and not even bring it up. If I told my mother this I think she would have a coniption!!!!

If you are an attorney, please don't take offense, but the attorneys who act like they walk on water make it hard for the ones who are normal. That's why there are lawyer jokes!!!

I guess the little voices in his head are telling him it's ok to bring his own wine. Maybe he should bring his own Steak too...let the caterer handle it directly.

I am so sorry but the minute I read your post I started laughing. I cannot even believe that someone could say that to you!!!! I immediately had a visual of this guy with the raised eyebrows and hoity toity nose and can't stop laughing at him

That is TOTALLY rude, there is no excuse for there, I don't care if you were serving $2 bottles of wine. Coming to your wedding is not about drinking good wine, or anything else but celebrating your marraige. To do something like that shows absolutely no etiquitte or class. If he wants his expensive wine he can drink it after the wedding. Or better yet, how about he gives his precious wine to all your tables as a wedding gift to you?

I'd be annoyed but I'd ignore it because the people around him are going to realize he's being an a$$.

I agree.

It's kinda hard to say something to him. I'd ignore it and let him look like an arse bringing his own booze.

Like I say to my students, oh, I see you have (insert food or drink item here)? I hope you brought enough for everyone?

If he's so put out he should offer to buy wine for the entire reception...

R-U-D-E!!!

Do I got to people's houses and bring my own food because I don't like what they are serving?

And I think this will be the perfect solution for it and he will get the message.
Really obnoxious and rude.

I'm glad I'm not the only one who thought his comment was rude. The fact that my co-worker thought nothing of it kinda got me thinking it was me. Actually its probably a good thing that she's getting married before me. That way, I'll be at the table when he whips out his bottle of wine. I think in that environment I could throw a little jab in there about 'well at my wedding I hope you bring enough for the whole table'! It's bad enought he's a PITA to deal with to begin with, without having to worry about him ::behaving:: himself at my wedding!

I'm one of the 'normal' ones and I'm not insulted Of course, I know the attorneys Bluize has worked with and there was certainly some water-walking going on

It's rude!!!

But I would let him bring the wine - imagine what an a** he'll look like walking in to your reception with bottles of wine - that's payback enough!

I don't care if he is your boss. That type of behavior is low class for someone in a position of authority.

OK--- I am a huge wine connoisseur and we often bring our own wine out to restaurants (because it is less expensive to buy outside of the restaurant--the mark-ups are ridiculous)........and I really don't have the taste for everyday table wine...BUT--NEVER in a MILLION years would I even THINK about bringing my own wine to a wedding we were invited to. That is just outright RUDE and OBNOXIOUS!!! I usually just stick with the liquor or beer for the night. Ugh....I can't believe he would even contemplate bringing his own wine......

I wouldn't really worry about it though--in the end it's not going to make a difference on your big day. Obviously your co-workers will know the kind of person he really is when he shows up at your wedding with his own wine. I don't think I would say anything, even if you get charged the corkage fee....he is your boss and you don't really have to create extra tension in the office over $10 or $15. I personally don't think it's worth it....my that JMO.

Had to chime in here........

I'm sure you know that not all lawyers are not as arrogant as this senior partner.....otherwise you would not be inviting a group of them to your wedding.

I have to admit though, I'm appalled that this has even come up in conversation. That is so rude to bring your own liquor to a wedding.

Your wedding is months away and the invites have not even gone out. It's totally possible that your arrogant boss may not even get an invitation at this point Drop that tidbit around the office and maybe he will change his arrogant tune.

Thanks for the defense! I can see that coming from that law firm and those lawyers! Thankfully, you got out and are normal!

It is rude, but sicen you can't discuss it with him, I would just pretend I didn't know about it. I think if you told the hall, you wouldbe charged a corage fee, but if this guy just shows up with his wine & you pretend either they will tell him he can't use it or he will schmooze the staff into opening it for him. I don't think they would charge you at that point. He should tip them for that, but not you.

He sounds liekthe type of guy that if you told him thw hall wouldn't allow it he'd laugh & say, of course they will, if I tip the maitre d.

Maybe if he's this tacky he'll bring his own corkscrew!
