i fell last night and ended up in the ER at NYU till 5:30am. broke and dislocated my right wrist. and im a righty!!
dr said i may need surgery. i am terrified at the thought. any of you ever have surgery? am i being a big baby?
im so upset.

oh no!!! I'm so sorry about your wrist. I've never had surgery there, knees are a different story! Did the ER doc tell you to go see an orthopedic?

FH had surgery on his wrist.
except he needed a pin in his wrist..

let me tell u i was soooooooooo scraed to have my knee surgery,,,,,,,,,,but im so glad i did it or i would have been worse off! you will be fine!

My mom did that once and hurt her hip and she sued the restaurant and got lots of $$$, you should try that!

I'm so sorry it happened. I'm in a cast now too, but for my left hand and that's hard enough.
Really pay attention to the doctor's advice: keep it elevated and KEEP IT STILL. Even when it doesn't hurt so much and you feel like you can start folding laundry, opening up mail, things like that, just... don't. For a few weeks at least.

oh Jeanette - i'm so sorry.... Are you in a lot of pain or did they give you good meds???
As for the surgery part - i've had a bit of surgery - with the most intese one being a spinal fusion.... You are asleep the WHOLE time and will wake up feeling better.... The only bad thing would be if you learn that you are allergic to the anethesia(sp?)....and you'll wind up throwing up from it - but other than that....it's a lot to mentally deal with...but you can do research on your hospital that you go to for it (i can give you the site if you want. i think it cost me $20) & you always make sure you get a second opinion...
