the davids bridal sale ends february 9th, i was just there yesterday..they have some amazingly priced dresses. i am work with a really really tight budget as well.. feel free to fm me with some questions! :)

davids runs these sales pretty frequently so i wouldnt be too worried

i think a koc or vfw would also be a great choice
some rhs have smaller rooms-if you do a thurs/mon in the winter you could prob get something for around 50 pp, and with 50 people you would be looking at around 3300

i would then say to break down your budget approx. as follows:

photo: 1200
dj:900
flowers: do your own cps, just get personals: 300
cut out limo
dress: you said 300..just be careful if you need alterations
i would also look at places like bloomies and nordstroms, depending on what kind of dress you're lookig for

You might be able to find a place that will just let you use the Garden outside area but then you may have to worry about the weather. My cousin got married and had her reception at the outside garden at the Hungtington Townhouse. You could also consider having a buffet menu or a brunch menu. I hope it helps.

Hello ladies....
Ok...
My Fiancee and I even though we just got engaged, we have been thinking about budget for the Wedding...
We live in Long Island, NY... But we are in a tight budget... ( i think... I mean we got time to save money but so far this is what we got in mind)

Do you think (seriously) We are able to pull out a Great/Elegant wedding with a $7,000 budget ????

Thanks!!!!

Congratulations!!

I think it's possible-i'm on a tight budget- and WAS trying to keep my budget around the same price-but FH wants to invite 30+ more people than we originally planned...anyway i digress...you can if you keep your pp price between 50-60 people (before tax & gratuity) That would bring you somewhere around $75pp (including tax etc). That would be about $4K for the reception. But you'd have to keep your guests list low. Now this is having a traditional CH; 4 hour reception etc.

But you could consider getting married at other places that aren't quite as 'traditional'for weddings-a lot of restaurants on L.I. have private dining areas that might be able to hold wedding receptions. You just have to think outside the box/this would be less $$ and you might be able to invite more people. You don't need limo's and if you do only get 1 and work out an arrangement to have that 1 limo pick everyone up and then go back for you.

DIY invitations; DIY programs (if you want to have them). And look off season-Nov-March are going to give you the BEST prices. Girl I've done a lot of research on cutting costs-even bought the book 'everything weddings on a budget' it had a lot of great tips!! Let me know if you want more info-i could go on and on in this post!

You're welcome!! My sister had a small wedding (50pp max) sept '08 and she said everything came out to about $6K. She had her ceremony at the Botanical Gardens in Flushing; and her reception at the Madison Hall in Rockville Center. It turned out really nice! My cousin has a really nice silver Mercedes so my dad drove us (she & i) to the ceremony in the car; and then her husband & her back to the Hall for the reception. She made her own invitations using the kits they sell @ Michaels; used a reasonable florist in Queens. I was her only bridesmaid so she only needed the 2 bouquets; and 2 flower things for my mom & his mom (can't remember what they're called) and the boutiners (sp) for my dad; her husband & the best man.

check out eatoutlongisland.com you can search a ton of places on L.I. that have private dining areas. or try KPsearch.com they have a filter where you can find places that do catering or have private eating areas. Most restaurants will let you bring in a DJ if there's a private area seperate from the restaurant.

If i can find it i'll post the link-but there was an article about a bride from brooklyn who did her whole wedding for under $5K (i think) she had her reception at a restaurant in brooklyn and used the music from her Ipod. Just an example of thinking out the box and trying to find places that can hold the reception.

Just remember-restaurants prices might add up-if you pay $39pp for the food; and then another $30 for an open bar...that's already $69++ so you're at the same price as you would be for a reception hall...make sure you do a lot of research and bargaining to get the best price! Good luck!

It can be done. I'm doing my own Center Pieces. No flowers for the guys. We are doing everything in one place so no limos. No video, My photographer is costing me a total of $1200.00 if we want albums we have the option to do them after the wedding and pay as we order. We are trying to keep it simple & it's working out well. The most money spent was on my dress & FH suprised me and picked up the tab on that one. Don't get caught up with all the little ad-ons, they add up!

If you are looking for a church wedding, the church charges $$ for ceremonies.you will have to check with the church ASAP for what they charge and whether they have your date available. My Church does NOT do Sunday weddings so I was forced to move my wedding day to a Friday or Saturday. It also turned out they only did weddings at 12 pm, 2 pm and 3:30 pm. When we booked our Oct. 2010 date, the Church already told us (on 9/09) that they already had reserved a 12 pm and 2 pm wedding for our day!! I couldn't believe it.

I am paying my church $ 500 for the ceremony fee and $ 75 for pre-cana. Pre-cana is a series of 'classes' that all engaged couples must take prior to the wedding ceremony to certify before the Catholic Church that you and FH (Future husband) are ready to start a life together as husband and wife. Pre-cana is a requirement for most churches and you can choose to do them w/ specific churches or with the Diocese (I think the Diocese in Rockville Center charges $250 for Pre-Cana) The classes can be all weekend long (Sat and Sun 9-6 pm) or on a few weeknights each week.

Then you have to account for other costs associated w/ the church - like tips for the priest/altar boys, etc (this shouldnt be more than $20-30).

By far though the RH will be the bulk of your budget though...And I think its a good idea to reserve the Church FIRST and then start calling RH's to check whether your date is available.

Best of luck!

Running of the Brides -- This Friday is a GREAT place to find an amazing dress for a really good price.

We got my cousins dress there last year -- and this year it is my turn!! All my girls n' me we are going :).

You can totally do your wedding on that budget -- you just have to prioritize what is REALLY important and let other things go. . . . For example maybe have a ceremony in a park ($25 permit fee) and spend the money on the 'reception' or 'afterparty'. Or maybe have a cupcake cake or mini cakes or alternative cake ideas -- check out Martha Stewart http://www.marthastewartweddings.com/cake-alternatives

DIY may help if you have the skills and the time.
Ask around family and friends and see who has skills that may be helpful and they may be willing to help. . . I know some people have donated backyards houses etc. to help family members -- also one of my best friends used her Aunt's church and since her aunt had a good standing they were allowed to use the church for free . . . Which helped with costs.

My other ideas for cost-saving
(1) Search out local mom & pops whenever you can -- for your stuff -- often they are way cheaper than well known florists. .

(2) Shop around, ask questions, and don't be afraid to speak up and say 'I am on a budget - I cannot afford that -- do you have any other ideas'.

(3) Check out Wedding Bee classifieds for other brides trying to offload their wedding stuff -- centerpieces, vases, decorations etc., so you don't have to buy it retail. . .

(4) Keep your guest list DOWN!!!! That is what will run your costs up QUICKLY!

(5) Check out Restaurants with private rooms! Sometimes you can get a great menu for $30 a person. And it is already an elegant, decorated venue depending on the restaurant. Chowhound is GREAT for that -- they have lots of threads regarding restaurants and their private rooms and the quality & price ranges.

Also:
Some Possible Venue Ideas (Not necessarily in LI)
Old Stone House, Pochron Studios, Smack Mellon Gallery, Bacchus, Landmark on the Park, Metropolitan Building in LIC, Brooklyn Society for Ethical Culture. Not sure of the 2010 prices . . . .

Best wishes. . .

Hey Just wanted to let you know -- a friend of mine on another board did a $5000 reception for 50 guests. . . She had a midday wedding.

She didn't do it at a Catholic Church though -- she had her minister come to the Secret Garden in Central Park ($400 permit), and it has a bunch of little benches for guests to sit. . .

$350 for the minister

Reception @ York Grill ($3000) - 89th and York (included open bar and then delicious lunch) - guests get a menu to choose from.

Also more inexpensive spaces/venues:

http://www.opencenter.orgNew York Open Center - $80 - 110/hr, in Manhattan near Houston St.

http://www.flushingtownhall.org Flushing Town Hall - in Flushing, Queens, has an art gallery downstairs and theater upstairs.

http://www.queensfarm.org
Queens Farm Museum - They have a barn $1200, a pavilion $500 (concrete picnic table style), and an orchard you can rent.

http://www.issueprojectroom.orgIssue Project Room - very interesting performance/event space in a converted two-story silo by the Gowanus canal, good layout if you want a space comprised of a lot of small interesting spaces (rather than one big room). Your guests will not forget this place.

Honestly I think you will be really tight especially if you want it to be very Elegant but is def. Do-Able Just watch out for your expenses and how you spend that money...I agree with the other suggestions a restaurant or a small catering hall is good for 50 guests I suggest Meditterean Manor is very nice and not costly at all and they are having a Bridal Show February 21st so if you are on a really tight budget check them out you might win something out of it....Check it out Mujer!!!

Most restaurants -- speaking from party experience -- will let you have music on an ipod or DJ depending on how much space you have. . .
