So I am what one might call a 'budget bride' I am planning on a tighter than normal budget and I am 100% determined to prove that you can plan a stunning wedding for less than $15k lol... MUST PROVE THE FMIL WRONG!!!
Anyway, the hardest task has proved to be finding a 'wedding' photographer (I know a ton of photo journalists but no wedding photogs)...Talked to all the big LIW vendors and they charge way too much...so then I posted an ad on craigslist and I think we may have found an awesome upcoming photog!
He is gonna do an E-Shoot for us for free so we can see how we vibe and if we like his work because he is working to build his portfolio.
I think he is GREAT and cannot wait until our shoot on 8/20.
Check out his work and let me know what you think about it... and be honest because its still gonna cost a decent chunk of change if we decide to book lol
Go for your free shoot and see how you feel after you get the pics. Just bc he is a bit more inexperienced in weddings doesnt mean he cant be fabulous!
Also, check out CeciB who is popular for BPics but we did meet her for wedding photos. I felt stronger about another (more expensive of course lol) photographer, but her packages were reasonable and she had nice pics.

the engagement shoot pics looked great, very professional, but I didn't see any wedding shoots? Doing well with one doesn't necessarily mean they will do well with the other. Can you see a full wedding?

That is exactly what we are going to do...it actually worked out really well because he offered to do the shoot the same day as my make-up trial so not only will I have my make-up done, but I will get to see how it translates to pictures :)
Augsust 20th is soooo far away and I cannot wait because it is when we will be back on the Island to get more wedding checks out of the way :)

LOL! Its all about the DIY and a 2 1/2 year engagement.
I also negotiate everything... and never accept the first rate someone gives me which has been a HUGE helper.
It also helps that its only about 90 people which cut costs considerably.
But mainly negotiating....When I set a budget in my head... I REFUSE to go over it and make it pretty clear before I even talk to a vendor that I wont budge lol

i planned my whole wedding for 15k. but it's only for 75 people. but i found great deals on everything and shopped around a lot.

I don't know his pricing, but I did notice that the wedding package gives you 'up to 58 4x6 proofs.' That is nothing. Most of us get anywhere between 500-1200 proofs. Try contacting Gina Esposito. I'm linking her pricing page, but go through her FB albums to see her work.Gina Esposito

Check out him My mom works with him and when she told him what we were planning on spending on a photog he said he is WAY cheaper. We are also planning on meeting with him to see some more of his work. Most things on his website seem to be black and white and I would like to see some more in color. It might be something worth looking into for you.

Maybe I should clarify... I will get my own prints and photobooks made and by cheap I mean two shooters for under $500 and this photog is a photoshop wiz so it also includes retouching :)

That's a fantastic price! One thing I can say (since I'm marrying into a family of photographers) is that price and quality don't necessarily match up. Some amazing photogs are poor businessmen and could charge more. Some are fantastic and are looking to build their portfolios. And some are thoroughly mediocre and get away with charging a ton.
Will he give you all the un-watermarked digital files?
