budget woes

how many of you are already going over budget? i'm already finding everything i liked to be over my planned budget...

dj- didn't want to go over 4K, spent 4600, but wound up with a jazz quartet for cocktail hour and lighting which i didn't expect

photography and video- budget 6K, looking like 7-7500...torn between two photographers and two videographers

florist- budget 4K, scared to even shop it because i want tall centerpieces and my hall makes me use spitz and peck or stefans, or pay a 1500 bond fee to use elsewhere (aka budget now 2500)

limos- 4K, no idea what to expect, haven't priced and don't know how many i will need, but FH and I def want a private car like a rolls royce from ceremony to reception

honeymoon- A LOT...already have a separate bank account for that sucker

plus we want a photobooth (1K) annnnnnnd we have to tip all these people hahaha

My entire wedding budget went out the window from the very beginning when I realized how expensive everything is. We stood in budget though for RH and photo/ video. Im nervous about floral.. Im sure what Im going to ending up loving is going to be more than I budgeted for.

yea- i mean my photographers are about 195 dollars off from each other, love them both, but i'm already 500 over the re-adjusted budget of 7K when i realized 6K for photo and video was not cutting it....

Staying on Budget? What's that? LOL. I have no idea what anything costs, so I am trying to do as much research as I can before signing any contracts. Luckily, FH is a great negotiator. I plan to use his skills to the max. One thing that I am doing to stay on budget is eliminating any 'extras'. I probably won't do Save The Dates, order personalized napkins, etc.

Thank goodness we have over a year to plan and save!

Ditto!! I have no idea what staying on budget is anymore. We had a set dollar figure in mind and are far beyond it- it seriously makes me want to elope! Even getting married at an 'off-peak' time is still costly.

Have you checked out b*urtons for flowers? I have 16 tall centerpieces with calla lillies, blue orchids, and floating orchids in the vase and get to keep the vases for $100 a centerpiece. That price stays the same regardless of the flowers. Theyre worth looking in to! We LOVED them!

As far as budgets go.. Right now we have about $5000 left in our budget for my dress, church donation, limos and videographer.. It looks like we're going to be a bit over. Plus that doesnt include any favors, bridal party gifts, stationary, and a million other small things. Im afraid to know the final total.

Re: budget woes

We never set a 'budget', but I kind of capped a price for each vendor based on what I feel it should be But, so far, everything has been less than what I planned to pay...My problem is since flowers and limo together wound up being over $1,000 LESS than i expected, I figured 'hmm! Now I can get a photobooth!' Everytime I 'save', I find something else to buy with that money.

Re: budget woes

OMG yes that thing BUDGET.. My wedding was coming out to almost 30 k over what was planned, thats when we said NO WAYYY!! I felt like right now is not a problem bc we are still far away, BUT i know as the date got closer and the bank account got smaller I was going to stress! thats why we figured to save all that money have a desitnation wedding ( if I told u guys the price you would not beleive it) and purchase a home.. in our case it made alot more sense, we are a family of 4 already, and spending 70k for one day Just did not make sense for us ( no offense to anyone) by the time the wedding comes around we will be married almost 5 yrs, therefore we chose to do it simpler and just renew or vows!

Have you tried negotiating with the vendors also? Could maybe you get you down a little less for everyone - saves you a couple of hundred! :)

oh yea- we've been negotiating for sure...i've talked everyone down anywhere from a couple hundred to almost 1k...everything is negotiable...the only one that really hasn't budged is video...

Re: budget woes

I hear ! I made my budget become realistic. So now that i have my ' The knot' planner on my iphone, I've been really strict to my budget. As for the florist, I warned my BM that we might have to make their boqs. I dont have the money to pay for every BM boq. And I dont want go over 30k.....we shall see

Re: budget woes

So I've been pretty good with not stressing but today it hit me. I saw a centerpiece I fell in love with but I got quotes from others brides as to how much they are and my mouth dropped. I never thought flowers would cost so much. I'm going to have to clear my mind of those centerpieces and keep looking around
