Re: Budgeting
We used the knot.com budgeter as a guideline. But remember that is probably going to come in a little low since it does not take into account that Long Island is expensive.
Here is about what we spent so far:
DJ: about $2,000 Photographer/Video: about $4,500 Florist: about $3,000

Re: Budgeting
Budget is really a personal thing because you may want to spend a lot on flowers becuase that is important to you and others may want to spend a lot on something else. Honestly you can find something you love in every price range. Setting a budget is hard but first prioritize things you want and things you need to make your wedding special to you!

Absolutely! I dreaded sitting down to talk about the good ole' budget bc I was afraid about what it would look like..lol. It was a little tough to do with all the estimating but it was great to see what FH felt were the 'important' elements to the wedding in comparison to MY thoughts and visions for the day. In the end, you can make it work on whatever budget you set based on what you feel is important.

Create Your Own -
We made a list with a budget and started with the top and working our way down. When the money runs out, anything below where we stop is SOL. As of now, we are only $300 over budget but our next item will increase a TAD BIT.
There goes the favors -

Re: Budgeting
Thanks girls! I wan just looking for some type of number. Like for flowers I would not even know what is average. I just do not want to assume a number and be way under.

Re: Budgeting
dont worry girl!! once you start shopping around vendors, you will see what the prices for flowers range in... ive recd quotes from 1900-3000 in flowers....so it all really depends on the florist, the flowers and your pocket! LOL

Re: Budgeting
FH let me figure out the budget myself, he trusts that my thrifty self won't let us overpay..
Photography is most important to us so we're figuring around $4K. I want video and figured betweeen that and photos it may jump up to $6K. FH doesn't really care about video, so I'm not looking at getting something expensive.
Music we're budgeting about $2K because we're not getting uplighting or anything fancy. Its a day wedding so we're just looking for a fun sound.
Flowers we've budgeted $2K but thats because its my least important vendor. I said no flowers at the church bc we'll only be there for an hour, so my mom said she'll help chip in for some of that.
Trans I'm estimating at $2K but it may be more because I want a shuttle to bring my guests to and from the RH, however we can't even price it out bc we have NO idea what we want. FH doesn't want a limo for us, he wants to rent a BMW m5 for him to drive away in

Re: Budgeting
def use the Knot the budget tool. its a great starting point if you just want average numbers and it lets you tweak it if you know you want to spend more on some things and less on others

If you are worried about the florist budget, go in with a number and see what they can do for you. I have a specific budget in mind and when I go in to meet with them I will say I have $x and need 15 center pieces 8 BM BoK etc. And they will tell you how many flowers or if that is a feasible budget.

Re: Budgeting
budgeting is personal, depending on what you value more..photographers over flowers, etc.
but i'm planning on getting this whole wedding done for 16,000. and for the most part I'm gonna make that number.....but i'm only planning on 80 people and 10 centerpieces with a small bridal party.

I agree. I used this and then search google for the budget estimator template. They both use the same percentages, but I liked the excel template better.
Once you get this estimate you can start comparing to the prices vendors are quoting to get a better idea of how much it could cost you.. then you start deciding if you want to spend more or less on some things and change it from there.
