i've been renting apartments for 2 1/2 years now and decided i want to buy a house. guess what? i can't. can't afford it.
what's the next step?
i'm actually kind of tired of renting an apartment. maybe renting a house would be better?? I feel like there's more room?? i like knowing i can pack up and go anytime but at the same time i want to know i own something and it's mine.
just venting/thinking out loud so i apologize.......
Ok so on this note I just found out today that starting in Feb my parents are charging us rent so whatever I wrote in my earlier post no longer applies so no house for me anytime soon!

Re: buying house? coop? condo? renting?
Definately look into buying a co-op and Queens has the cheapest maintenance.
I looked on LI and most maint is more than the mortgage!!!

Re: buying house? coop? condo? renting?
my fh and I live at home still to save money for a condo or house or SOMETHING lol I do not want to pay rent. If you have something to sell, you'll be okay! The down payment is the hard part because of the wedding. I don't want a house right now. I rather have a condo and then when we are ready for children, we will look into a good area to buy a house.
too much money and too much to think about!!

have you tried looking into foreclosed properties??? what about looking into buying a condo or co-op? that way its less expensive and at the end of the day you still own it and aren't throwing away money on rent.

09er crashing! FH and I just started looking into where we are going to live once we get married. We just started looking into co-ops, but we are not sure if we are going to buy or rent. Also, we are looking into renting with the option to buy that way we are not totally throwing away our money and its affordable for us. If you look on MLS, sometimes in the description it will tell you if the owner is willing to do this.
We're in the process of buying a co-op right now (working on getting the mortgage). They're such a good price right now (under 200K for a 2 bedroom and sometimes cheaper), especilly with the low interest rates. And the closing costs are no where NEAR the cost of a house (maybe 5K instead of 15K). You need at least a 10% down payment but if you're getting something for 150K, that's only 20K to get in instead of the 40K you need for a house right now. And you don't have to deal with the hassle of mowing and all that.
