what really helps me is having a 2 family house. i own it but i have renters who pay half the mortgage, literally. they give me the rent money and i use one of my paychecks and i pay the mortgage every month. its kind of a pain having renters but its worth it for now cuz it helps us to get by. so thats my advice. if u could do something like that, like having an apartment in a house u are looking to buy, then its easier to afford everything.

09er crashing! FH and I just started looking into where we are going to live once we get married. We just started looking into co-ops, but we are not sure if we are going to buy or rent. Also, we are looking into renting with the option to buy that way we are not totally throwing away our money and its affordable for us. If you look on MLS, sometimes in the description it will tell you if the owner is willing to do this.
if you want more space then i would look into renting a house... i want a house myself but i am not sure if we are going to be able to afford to buy one by the time we are ready to start looking (probably winter 2010)... i am weary of buying a condo because i don't want to have the hassle of selling it once i have enough $ for a down payment on a house... so we will probably just rent if we cant afford to buy a house.
I thank the Lord everyday for my dad and stepmom because right now we're living in a house that was owned by stepmom's father. Several years ago he went into a nursing and home and my parents offered to let us move in and just pay the utilites. For legal reasons, they could not charge us rent because if the property generated profit it would go straight to medicaid. He has since passed and since the housing market is so bad they are not looking to sell the house right now. This is why we're paying for own wedding. Basically all my income goes into savings and we use FH's paychecks for our day to day expenses. If we can save enough for the down payment by the time our wedding is here then we can definitley afford the mortgage. Its just very hard for us young people to save 50 thousand for a down payment....

i know im older then most of you... but did you guys ever play that game M-A-S-H??? where you had to chose 3 things within catergories... and it was kinda like a 'fortune telling' game??

well i ALWAYS ended up with Apartment, so maybe it was meant to be. maybe those games really worked. lol
FH refuses to rent, i kinda agree, so we decided to not live together until we are married and then we'll buy our house!!

I remember M A S H I always got the shack too! FH and I are looking into a co-op/condo, but we want a two bedroom, otherwise it's useless because we're looking to start our family right away... but maintenance kills me with the mortgage... so with the prices on homes coming down we're looking into that as well. We'll be seriously looking in Summer 2009... ack!
try looking into purchasing a 1 bedroom coop..for now. its the cheapest way to go.
