Buying Meat for Two
Whenever I go meat shopping I can't just buy what I need - 1/2 lb of Chicken Breasts. They always come packaged at 1lb or more! What do you guys do? Do you buy more and freeze the rest? I hate buying more than I need.

Re: Buying Meat for Two
Sometimes I buy the family pack and then I split the chicken up into freezer bags or tupperware. But 1/2 pound wouldn't work for me anyway, because DH would still be hungry. He is like a bottomless pit!

Re: Buying Meat for Two
yes...I like to have it in the freezer...so I don't have to go to the store all the time...I actually break whatever I buy into individual servings and double wrap in sandwich bags...then I put all the wrapped meats into a freezer bag...so I can pull out only what I need...

Re: Buying Meat for Two
I usually go to Costco about once every 2 to 3 months, buy a bunch of meat and package them up for two and freeze. Then just take whatever I am cooking in the morning b/4 work and it is defrosted when I get home.

Re: Buying Meat for Two
.5 lb won't work for DH and I or we would both still be hungy - we must be big eaters, huh? I usually buy a little over a pound for the two of us!
But yes, I usually buy more than I need and split it in freezer bags in dinner size portions. Esp thing slike pork chops and stuff - I usually buy a 8 pack or something like that and split it for 2 dinners.

Re: Buying Meat for Two
Definitely look into buying family size packages of meat. The price per pound is usually less than smaller sizes.Like the other ladies said, just wrap individually and freeze. I like to label before freezing with date, weight and contents.
1/2 pound of chicken? OMG, my husband would call that appetizers

Re: Buying Meat for Two
Yeah.. chicken never comes small enough I agree. We usually by the smallest available since i normally cut off a LOT of the fat on those. Regardless how 'fat free' they say they are.
If we can't or if it comes with 3 breasts.. another thing thats annoying, yah we freeze. The other option is we cook the whole set and FH takes the fresh left overs for lunch.
Yes, we do buy bulk steak and separate to freeze. Chicken's different we don't eat as much so it seems a waste to freeze it.

Re: Buying Meat for Two
Just wanted to add, we save money on meats by buying less in poundage on the Chicken/Pork/Beef and fill our plates with veggies instead and a stratch. Every meal has two sides with us. It's very filling.
