When you ladies get married, will you be buying a house or renting an apartment? My fiancé and I still have a while (we actually aren't even sure if we will be living on LI in the next 6 months), but we started talking about whether we should buy a house or rent. As long as we are on LI, we are TRYING to live at my parents house rent-free for as long as possible to save money.

Buying or Renting?
Apartment living... we decided we would rather try to save up some more money (after we clean ourselves out for this wedding!) before we take the house plunge!

right now we are renting, but my parents want to sell their house, so as soon as we are ready we are buying their house, the wedding and my daughters sweet 16 definitely set us back so our goal is 1-2 years after the wedding to buy.

Definitely renting. We will have a 5 year plan of saving and then hopefully be able to put a huge amount down on a home =)

We're currently living with our parents and hoping to move in to an apartment my January. We're looking now though because we have dogs and it's impossible to find somewhere that will take us and two of them! The plan is to stay home as long as we can to save money, be in an apt. for no more than 2 yrs, and then hopefully be able to afford a down payment on a house!

My parents actually want to move to Florida (but waiting until after I get married because I'm the last kid to get married and they are saving for my wedding too). They talked to us last night about how when they move we can get the house so I guess it'll be renting for me until they move as well (unless we find a house that we love for a great price because there's a lot of renovations we want to do to my parents house! LOL)

We just bought a house last year (it's a townhouse). I'm not going to lie, its HARD to save every month when you're paying for a mortgage, but it's better to us that we are investing it rather than throwing it away in rent money. We were able to save up enough to put 5% down on our home with a conventional mortgage by living with our parents for 2 years and selling FH's car.

We are planning on looking to buy a house a few months before our wedding. We rented and found it so hard to pay rent and afford to save.

Were currently living with our parents to save. Our original goal was to buy, but with FH's student loans, mortgage may not be possible right away. Were gonna live with our parents as long as we can, then get an apartment together right before the wedding.

Renting the wedding has tapped us dry so we do not have the funds for a house. We will rent while we save for a house.

Renting for now so we don't have to spend our savings on a down payment just in case we need it to pay for the wedding and then once the wedding is over we plan to start looking to buy. I HATE paying someone else's mortgage though! Also my parents are looking to move to Florida in the next three years, but they're looking to buy now so hopefully they'll get something by years end and then we can move into it rent free, just pay the bills... fingers crossed!!

We are renting now and moving to another apartment before the wedding. Hope to find a 2 bedroom so we can stay there as long as possible and be able to take our time and save for a house.

We still live at home with our parents. I'm lucky that he lives literally half a mile down the road. I'm dying to live with him but we are trying hard to save because we would rather buy a house over renting.

We just bought a house, literally one year ago. It has been rough, especially this last winter with the oil bill :(.
It has been tough to save for the wedding. In this process, I have learned that certain things aren't necessary for me to enjoy my wedding; I have a wonderful fiance, a pretty good life, and that as long as my day is filled with good food, good company and some great music, everything else is peanuts.

Re: Buying or Renting?
I recommend buying if its doable for you guys, what many people pay in rent these days you can put toward a mortgage. Just be sure if you buy that's where you want to live for a long time lol and definitely don't settle.

We just moved into a 2 bedroom apt in January. We are planning on staying there until after the wedding and then start house hunting!

We bought a house and truthfully it was super overwhelming if I could go back I would probably rent, save some more and buy a house after the wedding. We are still trying to catch up.

Re: Buying or Renting?
Alot of my friends recommend not buying a house until after the wedding, because of the stress and extra expense. We are going to 're-evaluate' the house buying until after the wedding.
PS. We have a mutual friend on FB (Dani) and she posted some pics on her page from your wedding. You looked beautiful. LOVED your dress.
