Did anyone buy their own wedding cake from their favorite bakery or did you stay with the hall's wedding cake?
I am concerned with who my catering hall is using as a bakery. Read lots of reviews on the web and they are not positive.
Help!!!

I am also getting a cake from elsewhere and not use RH's, has nothing to do with their cakes but before we even booked the RH we knew who we wanted to get a cake from.
Which bakery in Astoria? Theres alot of good bakeries but hmmmm if you want fondant not sure what place that would be

we're bringing our own cake in.......our hall doesn't offer a cake. I would feel better picking my own cake from a bakery I think..........

Re: Buying your own wedding cake
And to answer your question about how much wedding cakes cost, depends on what you want...I called up seriously at least 50 bakeries for fondant cakes...The average price is between $6-8 per slice. Theres some places that charge more than $8 a slice...I found VERY FEW places that charged less than $6...The only bakeries i found that did so were in suffolk county and one place charged $4.50 a slice which is the cheapest i found. If you want buttercream then it will be less obviously

LOL
My caterer said they would charge $6.75 a person for cake. Which I guess from the prices posted above isn't bad. I think I might try to look into getting the cake from Buttercookie in Floral Park. They have really good fruit cakes and I wanted a strawberry shortcake cake! Has anyone looked into their wedding cakes?

Re: Buying your own wedding cake
Wait I have another cake question...
I've heard its cheaper to get a smaller pretty wedding cake and then just get a big sheet cake in the same flavor to serve the guests with. Will all bakeries/halls do that? And does it make a difference with the price. I haven't really looked into this at all yet, but I was wondering if anyone else knew about it. Thanks!

Re: Buying your own wedding cake
My hall is supplying the cake. The only reason I went with them was because I have been to dozens of weddings at my hall and they really have a nice cake!!! It is really good too!!!!
