I have just heard that my RH uses a fake decoy cake at weddings! I can design whatever I want (kinda) but it is FAKE -- as in not edible. Instead they cut up a sheet cake in the back and serve that. Should I be irate. I feel so mislead. FH and I actually both asked about the cake and NOTHING was said about this. I am goin to call BM tomorrow but has anyone heard of this?

Re: CAKE
I've heard of this before, but didn't know it was done at Villa Lombardi. I can see why you'd be upset. If it's really important to you can you have a bakery make it for you and deliver it? That would cost more though so I say no biggie. I've been to 2 Villa weddings and never noticed!

I think just the layer you cut into is real.

Re: CAKE
I have definitely heard of this before. It saves everyone money. No one will know the difference!
My cake is only for 100 people and the rest will be in a sheet cake in the back.

Re: CAKE
I have heard of this, too, but I talked to a cake 'designer' and she said it doesn't make much sense bc it's even more work for her. She still has to decorate the fake one, and now the sheet cake to a point, too!!!
Aren't we supposed to take the top home for the anniversary? (or is that not done anymore?) I have always seen the bottom layer being cut into... so that means that the two layers (top and bottom) have to be somewhat real... maybe it's jut the middle ones (depending on how big your cake is)
I wouldn't be 'irate', btu I'd be annoyed. That is definitely something that you should be TOLD...........

Re: CAKE
uugghhh.... I am calming down some but seriously, I am not happy. It seems that the bakery will be giving me a fake cake with one layer real... to cut into. a 'memento layer' to have as a keepsake an anniversary cake for our one yr. (no freezing needed)
Still calling Villa and the bakery tomorrow!!!!!

Re: CAKE
Hmm, that's weird. They should have told you about it when you booked. They should give you a credit so you can get the cake somewhere else.

Re: CAKE
that sounds like a weird requirement - maybe it's an option that you can do b/c it is cheaper, but if you still want a real cake, you can have one?
