My venue provides me with a cake but only gives me a choice of two different creams. I had my heart set on fondant. I was wondering if anyone had any idea how much extra fondant might be and if they think it's worth the extra cost.

Re: cake
I have no idea how much more expensive it would be, but its not worth it, IMO. It looks pretty and while it is edible, I don't like the taste at all. Really fondant is more like the canvas for decoration, or the peel of an orange. It keeps the cake moist and its pretty, but most people just peel it off and eat the cake and butter cream inside.
If you tell the baker that you are going for the fondant look, they can spread the buttercream so smoothly that it looks kind of like fondant.. But maybe its worth checking out the price if you really have your heart set on it.
My vote is to show the baker a picture of what you were thinking and see if they can make it look as close as possible with buttercream.

Re: cake
With the bakery my RH uses it was $200 extra to upgrade to fondent. I would think most bakeries would be about the same. We decided not to go with the upgrade...not really worth it.

Re: cake
we had rolling pin (was also an east wind bride) - he can make the buttercream look like fondant, and it tastes better than fondant. you will see at one of the bridal shows, he has examples
here are some candids, i can also send you link to photographers pictures. mine wasn't fondant design, but they definitely do it
I believe I was told about $300.00. I love the look of fondant but hate the taste. We have decided not to go with it, because to us it is not a big deal.

Yea I don't think its worth it either. You really dont wanna eat it. Its way too much sugar. Its pretty just to look at. I would go with something else.
