So my cake is included as part of the package with the RH. They just sent the '3 months before' packet with cake flavor options. I called to find out how/when we can try the various flavors to decide what we like best, and the informed us we can't: 'We don't do that here.' Is that normal? How are we supposed to decide without tasting? I'm really disappointed, as otherwise my RH has been great so far.

Re: Cake choices?!
My RH doesn't do that either - but see if you can find out which bakery they use & try to get a cake from there with some flavors!!
I'm sorry about that!!!

Re: Cake choices?!
Hmm that's strange. You would think you would want to know what your wedding cake is going to taste like before you serve it. I'm not sure if that's how it is at other places. But I know there are many that do have tastings.

Re: Cake choices?!
Thanks for the thought, I was on the same wavelength. Apparently the baker is inhouse, so that's a no go.

Re: Cake choices?!
i dont think my rh does that either you may have to either take the chance of going with your best judgement or maybe you can order you own cake from a bakery and some RH's comp you for that in some way

Re: Cake choices?!
Hmmm that's odd. I'm not sure if i get a tasting either now that you mention it. What are the flavors you have to choose from??
Rh's have a '3 month before' package . To me cake is the most important, without a tasting, I wont get a cake from the hall. I think my hall does tastings but I wont be getting it from there bec I want a certain one.
I think they mean that you have to go to their house bakers to sample
My good friend had her wedding at the Thatched Cottage two years ago, so her cake must have been through them also. I remember it being good and looking pretty, though they put the wrong color flowers on it that day. Make sure your planner/bridesmaid checks that it's correct when everyone is setting up.

Re: Cake choices?!
my hall wouldnt let me taste it either and being italian dessert is too important to mess with- so we are getting it from our favorite bakery- i would call and find out who is making it and see if you can sample (we cant its made in house)
Well as a self proclaimed professional cake eater, my vote is for either yellow sponge cake with lemon pie filling or chocolate devils food cake with raspberry preserves. Just cause those are 2 of my favorites

Re: Cake choices?!
I'm honestly not a huge cake person, but I was thinking perhaps yellow sponge cake with canolli cream?

Re: Cake choices?!
That is definitely a good combo (im not a big canoli fan thats why i said the other two but i know most others love it!! Im just a sad italian)!!!! Do all of the tiers have to be the same??

Re: Cake choices?!
MPAS, the '3 month before package' is a big packet of papers they send with logistical questions, and information we need to provide at our meeting for the final arrangements.

Re: Cake choices?!
we weren't able to taste the cake either, but we really don't care about the cake, just as long as it looks pretty for pictures. there's other deserts we'd much rather indulge in. we opted for marble cake w/ choc mousse filling, it's different than the usual wedding cake.

Re: Cake choices?!
I don't think we get to do a 'cake tasting' either. I think we can sample some cakes at their next showcase.
I am sure their cakes taste good -- its not something I would be over concerned about.

Re: Cake choices?!
Well, apparently I'm a huge cake novice. I just polled people at work, and cannolli cream is not such a great cake filling.
Top reccs: Chocolate cake with raspberry mousse Yellow cake with lemon mousse.
For those of you that have it as part of a package, can you choose different flavors for different parts? E.g. with a three tier, two tiers one flavor, one tier another.

Re: Cake choices?!
The only reason i didnt pick a fruit flavored mousse from your choices is because they tend to be too sweet. Think about the creams in a box of chocolates. They are usually the ones left behind...poor chocolate creams

Re: Cake choices?!
I had my Engagement party at Caffe on the Green in Queens, and we didn't get to taste the cake even though we asked to. I on;t know if our wedding hall will let us.
At Caffe on the Green we went with yellow sponge cake and raspberry mousse and it was PHENOMENAL!!!
