Cake choices?!

Original post by agoldm02

So my cake is included as part of the package with the RH. They just sent the '3 months before' packet with cake flavor options. I called to find out how/when we can try the various flavors to decide what we like best, and the informed us we can't: 'We don't do that here.' Is that normal? How are we supposed to decide without tasting? I'm really disappointed, as otherwise my RH has been great so far.

That is really strange- you would think that they would let you taste a few combinations - say at least three that you'd be interested in.

At Russo's I think they let you have a taste of a maximum of three choices to taste from cakes.

So I found out you can't vary flavors by tier (every slice is the same), but since each slice has three layers of cake and two flavors, I can use any combination of cake type and filling. Too many options!

Maybe two layers of yellow, one layer of chocolate cake with raspberry mouse and vanilla mouse?

The taste of the cake isn't a big thing for me. I never think wedding cake is good. I think as long as it looks pretty that is great with me

My hall is the same way. But they told me the bakery that does the cake, across the street. We went to the bakery and they said that they don't really do that either, but with enough persuasive arguments, we were able to taste the 2 types of cakes they offered, vanilla or chocolate and whichever filling we wanted to try. She had the baker prepare small portions and all the filling we wanted to try. We had to come back another day but it was well worth it!

Try and ask the bakery to try and convince them, they might actually do it.
