OOO good call on the whipped cream. ESPO. i thought since the hall has Ac it would be fine but better to eb safe than sorry. We dont wnat to freeze our guests to maintain the cake.
As far as price goes though, we dont have to pay anything extra for the cake. It is all included in our price per person. That was one of the things we LOVED. they ahve a bakery on their grounds and i spoke to the baker-shes isgreat. Said she can amke anything we want and no extra charge unless we want something weird like an actual napolean cake.
They will put layer of buttercream underneath but its thin. I just HATE fondant. We went to a tasting there and I tasted one of the cakes with fondant. The cake was OUT OF THIS WORLD but the fondant was super sweet and im not a sweets girl to begin with. Hehe perfer dill pickle potato chips to chocolate any day.
But thanks for the FYI about making only the top layer of the cake real-that was something I didnt know and would probably help lots of brides to cut costs.
yeah most Rh's include the cake sorry, mine does too but im getting it elsewhere so thats why i was thinking of cost lol
I honestly think the sheetcake thing is your best best, if you want the look of fondant but hate the taste, just ask them to serve your guests sheetcake and it solves all your problems lol

LOL buttercream-they suggested that at the RH but its not as smooth as the fondant and if Im not going with whipped cream I want that smooth as glass look. It is delicious though.
As far as peeling it off, they do it for me before they slice it.
Espo you like polka dots but no dasies? Too much?
oh no i like the 5th one the one before the polka dot cake, the pink one bc i like the design on the cake but think it would look great with the green instead of the pink

Since they peel it off, you can probably go with that option then. More than likely, the RH will also be serving something else on the plate with the cake too.
And doing one layer in fondant and the other two as like decorated styrofoam with sheet cakes to be served is a great idea...and money saving!

I didnt love the look either but I LOOOOVE the taste of whipped cream so i was willing to sacrifice appearance. But most people seem to think peeling off fondant will be fine.
RK bride, if you dont like fondant or whipped cream, what do you suggest?
Talk to the baker about doing the cake all in buttercream, which is a possibility. This is something I want to talk to the baker about too since I don't like fondant and love whipped cream but am concerned about the heat factor...and personally, I do not want to have my guests peeling off the fondant on the cake.
i dont know if you saw what i wrote to peteysbride, but why dont you get the fondant cake but feed your guests sheetcake, every baker will do this for you

We are having lots of deserts because we got free upgrades to premium package. YUMMY!
We are having a zeppoli station, waffle station and chocolate fountain as well as cake so people will have choices. If they hate the fondant, they can drown their cake in chocolate heh.

Re: Cake Help!
How about buttercream in June? Will that get messy or melt? If spread perfectly, it kinda looks like fondant. I want a cake that is moist, yummy and easy to eat, no peeling and stuff like that, hahahahaha

LOL i wrote to you before what you can do...hahaha ill write it for like the 4th time im probably gonna annoy everybody.
Ok buy fondant cake but make only the layer you will cut into real cake...the rest will be models with fondant over it but no cake inside...then you serve your guests sheetcake which will have no fondant on it, its really easy to do and every baker will do this for you

Yes every baker will do this for you! And it's not as hard as making a whole multi-tiered wedding cake since the models are made of some kind of styrofoam.

Re: Cake Help!
actually, the yellow polka dot one is not too dissimilar to our cake Ours is a topsy turvy fondant cake with each layer having either unsymmetrical rings, diamonds, or stripes. then, bows, and flowers will be added to it. Our colors will be celery green, ivory, white, and tiffany blue... (the fuzzy cellphone pic is of a sample, with different colors, but you get hte point).
Yeah, I dislike ultra sweet too, but I'm getting fondant. It is much more polished in it's appearance, and much more amenible to different designs/decorations. I agree with others, most people don't eat the fondant... it's easy to peel off. The ones who do likely crave the sugar anyway
Yeah, I'd definitely avoid whipped cream. Did you taste the whipped cream? Ususally, to increase it's stability, they add a lot of sugar and some sort of stabilizer... at our bakery, it tasted like gelatin.... yuk.... If it tasted like homemade whipped cream with vanilla and a pinch of sugar, I'd be all over it! But it doesn't. The stabilizer made it taste off...
whatever your selection, if you haven't already, make sure you taste a sample of exactly what you want. You may discover the combo doesn't work, or the fillings weren't what you expected...
Always the voice of reason! -grins at portjeff- You're right. i did taste the whipped cream for another cake filling but not as an actual frosting for the cake and what you said about the stabalizer makes a lot of sense. So we are definetly going with the fondant. I think its a toss up between @1-FH fave and last one. He thinks polka dots are too much for a wedding. I like it but would you do the dasies with it or not?
BTW your cake is FUN!

I really like #1..
At the last few weddings I went to, they took the cake into the back to cut it up (after the bride and groom did the cake cutting thing first, of course) and peeled off the fondant before serving the pieces to the guests...maybe you can ask your place to do the same?

why would they do that ...did the RH provide the cake, why wouldnt they just have sheetcake in the back to serve the guests instead of them peeling it off for everybody

Re: Cake Help!
Kickin, they will do that. Thanks for the idea: They said they peel it before serving because it sends people into sugar shock lol. Do you like #1 with gerbers? Have to imagine it with bright pink and orange gerber daisies and red ribbons.
Espo, the cake has a napolean filling-they cant make a sheet cake unless its a layered sheet cake-three layers like the regular cake. More work.

Doesnt fondant cost extra? If it does it doesnt make sense to pay extra and peel it off

Re: Cake Help!
Nope. As I said in another post, no matter what we want, we get it for an all inclusive price. We could do a super simple all white cake or a crazy colored topsy turvy one and its all the same price.

Re: Cake Help!
thanks
I would almost steal the tiny white flowers from that center cake picture, change their centers from pink to yellow, and scatter a few of them around a colored (maybe yellow) fondant cake... it would give the same two tone impression / without the 'offending' polka dots... (Gotta love FH's, they only have opinions on the food, booze, cake, and maybe limos... )
Then, you could add a several fondant daisies or maybe a couple bows as an accent to the top and sides....
