Kickin, they will do that. Thanks for the idea: They said they peel it before serving because it sends people into sugar shock lol. Do you like #1 with gerbers? Have to imagine it with bright pink and orange gerber daisies and red ribbons.
Espo, the cake has a napolean filling-they cant make a sheet cake unless its a layered sheet cake-three layers like the regular cake. More work.
its the same as making the cake, they just make a regular cake but just put no fondant on it

I think #1 with the changes you described would be super cute!! I'm not that great with picturing things, but it sounds nice! I'm partial to the look of fondant...I love it

Doesnt fondant cost extra? If it does it doesnt make sense to pay extra and peel it off
well her RH is providing the cake, but honestly the idea of someone peeling off the fondant doesnt sit right with me, its one thing when you do it yourself but i dont want with their hands all over everyones cakes lol.
I dont know i guess i just dont see the point of it if you just have them make a cake the way they normally would maybe put buttercream on it or whatever instead of the fondant, keep it in the back and they just serve your guests that...its just so much more simple

Re: Cake Help!
But why would they make two cakes Espo? its buttercream beneath so peels right off. I feel that asking them to make a second cake is a bit anal, especially because we're not paying anything for the cake and I have seen and tasted other standard RH cakes-not too great. Our RH ahs the best food in NJ.
I would understand using a shete cake if they said that standard cakes were made of foam except for the top layer. Then sheet cake totally makes semse. But if they make the whole cake standard, why make them change for one person? We have gotten premium upgrades for nothing because they thought we were a nice couple. I dont want to become 'those a-holes.'
As for serving, they will be wearing gloves and its like an apple-they did it in front of me at the tasting so i could see it. Thats never been an issue-it was just the taste I was curious about.

Re: Cake Help!
I think if you have a huge number of guests they make the 'nice' cake that you cut up in front of everyone for pictures (which usually isn't big enough for everyone to get a piece) and in the back they have a huge sheet cake that has the same filling etc so that everyone gets served a slice. Sometimes they make some of the layers out of something other than real cake and designate a layer for you to cut that's actually real cake.
...did I get it right? These are just what I've heard...

no i think you misunderstood, theyre not making two cakes...for the first one they only make one of the small layers actual cake just so you can cut into...the rest is not real cake theres nothing in there, its this plastic mold they use, they will just put the fondant over that and decorate it...its alot easier for them to decorate a plastic mold rather than actual cake...they never make 2 cakes, just 1 which is what they keep in the back and serve to your guests...what you will have is a model of a cake, just one layer is real for you to cut into thats it...this is what bakers actually suggest.
I dont know gloves or no gloves i dont like peoples hands in my food but your guests wont know so its ok...it takes time to peel it off, this way it can be pre-cut and ready to serve as soon as you cut your cake.

yeah i posted about that infact i think i wrote this out 6x lol...THis is what bakers suggest...one layer is real cake the rest is a mold they use like a plastic mold and they put the fondant over and decorate that...This is how they also practice, theyre not gonna make actual cake eachtime.

Re: Cake Help!
Right but they still have to decorate the 'faux' pieces of the cake. They have to make it look like a real cake so its still work. If they suggest the sheet-cake to us thats more than fine but I am not going to make demands because I really dont think its that big a deal. I worked in a catering hall years ago and knwo the standard of cleanliness they are suppsoed to keep. i think it will be ok but thanks for the help.

thats what i am saying, only one layer is real the rest is a mold of a cake with the fondant over no cake inside of it.

well its actually easier to decorate the cake if theres no actual cake in there, bc you dont have to be careful as much...But do whatever you feel is comfortable.
Honestly even if somebody has clean hands i dont want their hands in my food, but like i said your guests wont see this so it wont be a problem...Just talk to your Rh and if they will peel it for you and that is what you want then that is what you should do
I was only trying to give other options to those who like the look of fondant but dont like the taste, it is only a suggestion, nobody has to follow it.

I love cakes, (remeber I am the make beleive Pastry chef)hahahaha, but I didnt think they were soo complicated to eat, lol.
Question, if you put buttercream on the inside and fondant over that, wouldnt the cake look like a big mess, woudln't the buttercream be all messed up? I dont know
I like this post, its a good conversation maker

I just read the whole thread anyway I was thinking the same thing about peeling the fondant before serving. I guess they would have to smooth the icing too before serving. I also wouldn't want someone touching my food.

NO it doesnt get messy, they just put a thin layer and the fondant goes right over ...are you talking about peeling it off though? hmm not sure, it can get a little messy

Re: Cake Help!
As far as touching cake-something cocured to me. Fondant has to be laid flat and molded over the cake, coaxed into place....so doesnt that classify as somone touching your food anyway?
Its not like icing where you do it with a spatula at a foot away....
Just a thought :)

it does and even when they make your food...but for someone to touch my piece of cake to remove part of it bothers me dont know why lol but it does
also wont it be easier to peel it with knife just cut that part of, that wont be bad
