Cake poll

Cake poll

Well here I am on my snow day thinking about CAKES!

Because of my Yankee theme, I really wanted to find a way to incorporate pinstripes. They'll probably be on my table numbers, but it's really missing in other parts of my wedding. Yes I have lots of navy and white- but to me the Yanks are really signified by their pinstripes.

So......I thought of doing this on a cake! Is that nuts?

Which cake do you like better?

Ribbon going horizontally around the cake. This is from STBH's review- thank you for posting it! Not sure I'd use the monogram on top, but how funny, ours is H too!:

Pinstripes (this is the best pic I could find - I'd want the stripes to be alot thinner, and navy of course!)

I definitely think # 2 is more 'yankee' like., and will get the idea across....but if you are already incorporating a lot of yankee-related ideas then # 1 might be more subtle.

#1 is much more elegant because of the stark contrast between the navy and white...

I think #2 definitely looks more Yankee like - but for some reason I think it might be more expensive (because it would be more time consuming). Also, you'd have to see how they do the pinstripes - with fondant? or with icing? or something else? Just make sure you like the WAY they do the pinstripes. Otherwise, # 1 is pretty too!

Hmmmm soooooo true.

I was actually on the Black Forest website....and they had an example of it...but EEEWW I hate the DOTS and the ribbon up top! I'm guessing this is a very old picture!

Looks like they're using a fondant, which might be nice but EEEW the DOTS!!!

Number #2 would be more “Yankeeish” but I like #1

I know...I think #1 is definitely more elegant. Sigh...decisions, decisions... I just really wanted pinstripes somewhere in my wedding! Just imagine those big ribbons in cake #2 a lot thinner, with icing rather than an actual ribbon. Ugh I dunno!

Surprised that the stripes are winning the poll so far!

I almost fell off my chair when I saw her! I can't stop laughing! oh man, my tummy hurts now. lol

I def. love the vertical stripes on the cake. It looks very elegant. I'm a pastry chef and I must say that sometimes.......less is more, so I don't know if you should put the monogram on top.....it might throw it off a bit. hope that made sense....

like the 2nd one!

Re: Cake poll

You can go to any cake place and tell them exactly what you want. They can make a white cake with blue pinstripes if that's what you want.

Envision this!

White cake, each layer has the blue pinstripes, and blue ribbon around the bottom to break up the stripes in between layers. I think fondant would actually work better with what you want then a buttercream or a whipcream.

I can' t wait to see your cake!

Glad to provide the laughs!

I agree- less is definitely more. Just picture the second cake with thinner stripes...ugh I dunno.

I wouldn't have the monogram on top either...I just liked the horizontal ribbon style.....

you can absolutely have them make the stripes thinner. from looking at the cake, it looks like they painted the stripes in. you can either have them paint thinner stripes or cut strips of rolled fondant to use as the pinstripes.

I like #1 better, it'll still have the navy but is more subtle.

Sure you don't want to use any orange and blue? Or have Mr. Met make an appearance??

Nice try!

Our team's so classy- we don't need a mascot!!

Although I am jealous of the Phillies' mascot- I LOVE the Phanatic!!!

Re: Cake poll

They are both really cute ideas but if you are going with a Yankee theme, you should definitely do the 2nd cake only because the yankee pinstripes go down. I love the idea though! Very original!
