they dont like the taste. But if you dont mind it just get what you want. Hey i dont like buttercream at all and EVERY cake i have usually has buttercream, whether birthdays, or any event its usually buttercream or even regular cake for no specific occasion. MY WHOLE life ive eaten cake without eating the frosting. Its not a big deal, the fondant or buttercream or whatever is just on one side of the cake. I usually eat it from inside out, meaning smallest part going up towards the biggest part which has the frosting on it and i stop right before the frosting, you dont even have to peel it off you just eating everything but that part.
So in the end just do what you want, bc there will always be someone who doesnt like something, i mean look at the flavors. Everybody i see always focuses just on buttercream vs. fondant but remember that there can be tons of guests who dont even like the flavor of the cake so whether its buttercream or fondant they might not eat. For example dh is allergic to fruit and half the cakes have fruit so he wouldnt eat any with fruit in it regardless of the frosting. I am not the hugest chocolate fan and if its all chocolate i wont eat it. You cant please everyone, you are the one paying for it so get what you like.

i'm actually a pastry chef. i can tell you that fondant will make your cake cost more. secondly, fondant is a sugar dough that is used to give cakes a solid, sleek design, typically makes a cake more durable against shifts, bumps, etc. it can be flavored ...almond for example. however, it will most likely have a somewhat chewy/gummy-ish texture and isn't very very sweet, but there is buttercream underneath it and the two tend to gel together a bit (if both are made fresh and it's refrigerated properly)...i use both but hate fondant. i hate the texture and taste and am going to have only buttercream for my cake.
hope that helps :o) happy wedding everybody!
Thanks girls for all your input. I guess it's a matter of preference. I didn't think butter cream could be smoothed to have a sleek look but I guess you can. That cake above looks great!
Mandy...would you say on a hot summer day fondant is better or butter cream?
TIA
i sent you FM :o)

i love fondant! most people dont though. they can peel it off though, there is other icing under it..
I am with you Stacey!! I like fondant alot but then again I love icing!! We are having fondant because I love the look of a smooth cake. Plus we are having a v_hour so if anyone doesn't like the cake then they have planety more to choose from.
You should talk to you BM about the fondant in the summer
