I went to a cake tasting today. It was nothing like I expected!
I went and they asked me what type I wanted to try. I asked them for a list and they said we have anything you can think of. So we asked for 2 different types and when they brought out the samples the lady said try them and let me know what you think and walks away. She didn't give us anything to eat with. So we ate with our fingers.
Then she asked if we wanted to try anymore and since we weren't fond of the canoli we asked for fruit fillings. Another man brought them out and asked where our spoons were. We told him we had none and he was like well how did you eat the other samples and we said with our fingers. He gave us a crazy look and gave us spoons. Long strong short the raspberry and the chocolate moose together was amazing!
I just don't get why we had to make an appointment when we got very little attention and we needed to wait to try samples. But the cake was good!

Re: Cake Tasting
When I cake tasted with a friend two years ago in Portland, OR, the woman sat with us the ENTIRE TIME. This place sounds reaaaaaaaaally unprofessional.

Re: Cake Tasting
oh wow....that's lack of attention if you ask me....i went to a lot of cake tastings, i'm caked all but they all sat w/ me and discussed everything.
Keep shopping around, you deserve better attention than that.

Re: Cake Tasting
With the amount of bakeries out there i would not choose a place based on an experience like that no matter how good everyone says it is! In this economy it is pompous to not be grateful and go the extra mile for a customer especially a bride spending a lot of money on a cake... competition is everything and a small business owner that doesn't see that won't make it through these tough times!!! ugghh i hate bad customer service!

We actualy were at ERGA Bakery today also and they were WONDERFUL! Sal and Lilly spent much time with us going over all the details of the cake. Even the girl behind the counter helped out. We got a tasting and utensils and a to go home box, and everything was great! Sorry you had an unpleasant experience, but ours was fantastic!!!!

If someone said this to me I would say all of the above and make them bring out one of each.

Overwhelmed or not.. that's not your problem. You made an appt and should have had some attention.. AND AT LEAST SPOONS OR A FORK! That's just awful. There's a lot of competition out there and they know that.. so they should treat yuou better. I wouldn't book with any vendor who gave that type of service! I don't care how good their cake or whatever good they are selling is.... customer service is EXTREMELY important.. it sets the tone. It's the first impression they make that matters the most.. and they only get once chance to make that first impression... so they better do it right. I'm actually a very easy cutsomer and it doesn't take much to satisfy me... but bad customer service is something I wont stand for. I would have walked out or said something. If they treat you like that when they are trying to sell themself to you and get your business... what must they be like after you book them??!?!?!?!! Or worse yet.. ont he day of? I know it's just cake we are talking about... but every little detail counts!
