Cake types and flavors? Fondant, good or bad?

I just visited my baker who is anti fondant and says it tastes like wax. Anyone agree or disagree?
Also, what flavors and fillings are you ladies doing? What do you recommend. My baker was nice but I left more confused than ever. I love the look of Fondant....
HELP, cake info needed.

i dont know about the fillings, but i do pay attention to fondant vs. butercream when i go to weddings, and let me tell you that buttercream tastes wayyyyyyyyyyyyy better!!! fondant looks cleaner but is it worth scarificing taste? If your having a vh, i guess you might wanna go with what you like (appearance wise) since youll have other desserts

I don't like the taste of fondant so we did buttercream. Our filing was yellow cake with fresh strawberries and cream

I haven't decided on a flavor yet.
Fondant is nice just for looks it makes the cake look smooth and sleek but it does tastes horrible.
Can you ask the baker to put icing on the cake and then fondant on top. When it's time to eat the cake you can just remove the fondant.

Fondant has no taste. The baker will flavor it for you usually. The Fondant looks better but in my opionion, is not good to eat. I Like buttercream much better. Buttercream is also cheaper.

Also, most of the time, the buttercream is under the fondant to keep it on the cake so I just peel away the fondant to eat.

I am getting the idea. I think I will nix fondant although it looks so pretty. Now I do not know what filling to do. Suggestions? I am thinking cannoli cream. My baker said don't do too many different flavors b/c than people switch plates and it gets messy.

My fondant tasted like sugar, most people peel off the fondant before they eat it

I agree. We refused to have fondant b/c it is gross (IMO). We had choc cake, iceing, and white choc filling. Best cake ever!

Hey Hon!
Did you upgrade your cake to fondant from Erga Bakery? I just visited this weekend and did this, I didn't taste the fondant but the filling was AMAZING

TIA!

Fondant looks so beautiful!!!!!

I am having a full VH so I doubt my guests are going to focus that much on the taste of the cake when they can be sipping from the chocolate fountain and eating cannoli's<3<3 all night long.

I <3 CANNOLIs!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

everyone that i asked about this, cuz i had no clue what fondant was, said its gross and not to get it - including my RH when we were doing the menu last week. so i am going with half cannoli and half chocolate mousse.

My FH hates fondant - he says what's the point if it tastes like wax!

I love the look of the Fondant cakes. Always look very pretty and I always wanted that type of cake. But, I was told by many that it doesn't taste great at all. Plus, my hall does not even make those type of cakes. Either way, since I heard that it doesnt taste that great I will be choosing one of the buttercream cakes they offer. But, the Fondant make beautiful cakes!

I've had fondant that was fantastic. It's all a matter of finding the right baker.

I don't see how people would pay thousands of dollars to place like Cakes by Jay if something tasted consistently 'like crap'.

If anyone has their heart set on a fondant cake, definitely taste around. Some are better than others.
