I heard fondant doesnt hold up in the summer. We are going for a traditional stacked cake. No frills, just plain white. Maybe a basket weave style, with flowers on top. thats it.

i like the stacked cakes! i love the super-sugary taste of fondant, but i don't think of lot of other people do, so probably buttercream.

Re: cakes- stacked or tiered- buttercream of fondant
I want stacked with flowers going down it or around each stacked piece. That's one thing I have to check out soon is the bakery, I want to make sure the cake tastes good. I wish they could just make a giant Duncan Hines cake. Too many times I go to a wedding and I never really like the cake.

Re: cakes- stacked or tiered- buttercream of fondant
We had a stacked basket weave cake...whipped cream with layers of cannoli cream and chocolate mousse (DH was in charge of choosing cake-and he did a great job). The cake was beautiful, decorated with fall flowers and all, but I didn't even notice it until it was time to cut it! Mind you, it was displayed in front of us for the whole reception. Guess I was thinking about other things...
Karen32, I thought I was the only person in the world who likes the taste of fondant!

Probably stacked and buttercream, though I prefer whipped cream. Too bad the whipped cream just won't hold up :-(
