Call me a brat, but........ (the story just got better!)
Original post by Anniegrl
I was a little shocked when yesterday we received a wedding gift in the mail from one of FH's aunts. The card was signed with her name plus like 7 other names. They're not attending the wedding, so it was nice of them to send a gift, but when FH opened the box, it was a piece of my crystal - ONE glass! I was like, you've got to be kidding me. How in the world could like 8 people send us ONE glass? FH's little stepbrother sent us 2 champagne flutes that he bought with his own money, but yet these people send us a glass?
It was just a little strange IMO.

Re: Call me a brat, but........
maybe she thought she was ordering (1) set instead of one glass?? If the glass was expensive and shes not used to NY prices she could have thought she was buying the whole set for you

LOL...
I'm sorry Ann, I really did have to laugh at this one. The Alabama folks are cracking me up!!! I thought the elephant salad tongs were great but, this is just as good! I can't wait to meet Clay's relatives at the RD! I think Long Island might be culture shock for those who make the journey! Hang in there, maybe if you're a good girl I'll get you the other glass for your birthday.
Big hugs! Only 4 more days to go!!!! Hooray!!!!

It's odd to send 1 thing, but all 8 of them aren't coming so they really don't owe you anything, do they?

I don't think that Ann thinks that she is owed a gift, but just that ONE glass for a couple is strange. Had it even been TWO glasses from all of those people then even though it was from a bunch of people who probably could have pooled together more money, two would make sense. It would be a pair, like the couple themselves...

I always say you need 2 of everything. That's the rule I follow when I'm shopping!

I agree that she might have been surprised at how expensive NY prices are compared to Alabama--and maybe she signed the other names without asking them (my grandma always signs her kids names to cards--they are my aunts and uncles--even though they send their own-).

If that makes you a brat then I'm a downright BIT(H! I would rather send nothing at all than a gift like that.

Re: Call me a brat, but........
My MOH got married in Memphis, she said that she was lucky to get $50 from a couple. She said that she didn't get much money, mostly stuff from her registry. In other parts of the country, they still bring gifts to the reception and wouldn't think twice about it.
As I tell her about my planning and hear her reactions, I realize that NY weddings tend to be more formal extravagant affairs.

Re: Call me a brat, but........
On one side I would ask how expensive the crystal is and how well do you know those people. But I would think they would just pick something else that would make more sense, like a towel set. Usually less expensive and could match the number of people. It is definetly odd. But I wouldn't let it bother you. Hey think of it this way, that is like 8 people you don't have to buy food for. So really they bought you alot more!

Re: Call me a brat, but........
Just to add more to this.
My (step)mother's an idiot. If it said Quanity - 1 and she sees a picture of 8 glasses she'll assume that 1 means the set.
Could that have happened?
I know my stepmom has done that and I find out later from the receipent and I always feel embarrassed because I know what has happened.
My dad & I buy the rest and my Mom's all ticked off at us 'If I know it would cost that much!....' Did I mention I don't like my stepmom? heh
Just a thought tho.

I would think 1 would mean a set. Maybe that 's why? How much is an individual glass? Maybe it was such a high price that she thought it was paying for a set.

Girl, it gets better.
First of all though, my crystal is not expensive - it's $20 for a glass. And just because these people are from Alabama does not mean they're stupid, so she couldn't have thought that she was buying a set of crystal glasses for $20.
I of course do not EXPECT a gift from ANYONE whether they come or not, but like somebody else said, if you're going to give me ONE glass, you may as well just give me nothing at all!!!!
Ok, so here's the even better part of the story. I come home today to find another package on my stoop. It's from some people on FH's side who I don't even know. I open it up and it's.....ONE PLATE!!!!!!!! So now I have one plate to go with my one glass! HA HA HA HA HA!!!! W T F is up with these people????

Re: Call me a brat, but........
Is it the Bachelorette Set. Single plate, single glass.
I really think they made a mistake. I'd someone slip to them that now that you have the first glass (SINGLE GLASS) you really hope the rest come in from other people because they are so gorgeous in person.
For the plate: I'd say something like the above but prehaps mention how you GUESS you could always just display the single plate if the rest don't come in.
