Call me ungrateful...BUT.....

Original post by prncssrachel

the more I think about it, the more it annoys me that we've been engaged for almost a year now, and JT's parents STILL have not gotten us an engagement present. Now, this would not bother me if they didn't tell us they were getting us something. Also, when my parents had a brunch for JT and I when we first got engaged, they were the only ones to show up empty handed. I mean, they're not even paying for ANYTHING for our wedding. The LEAST they could have done was gotten us a card. I'm sorry. This DEFINITELY makes me sound ungrateful, but I mean, my parents have been doing SO much to help us out whether it be that they are letting us live with them rent free, giving us money for the wedding, having a nice brunch for us, etc., and JT's parents have done NOTHING, yet want a say in EVERYTHING for our wedding. It's just on my mind and annoying me

LOL Rachel...you're allowed 5 ***** days a year. You used up one so far.....LOL

No worries. Are the parents paying for the wedding? If so I would not mind no gift. But if not, I guess not getting one would **** me off too.

I can relate to what you are saying. My FI's parents said they were going to buy us as an engagement present a pots and pans set (not even asking me what set I wanted). A few months after we got engaged I registered. They finally went out and bought the entire set (even all the extra ones I registered for) and said it was my bridal shower present. So we never got a present from them either.

How you feel is understandable. Perhaps they will be generous for the wedding?

My FI family is the same way. No acknowledgement, no congratulation, no response when my family was putting together a little family gathering. My FI b-day is this week and no will from his family will acknowledge this either. He loves my family and I have to be grateful that although I know this must hurt him at least my family makes him feel special. As far as the wedding, I dont even tell them whats going on, and if they offer a suggestion, I yes them and do what I want anyway. And, it does $uck.

I just wanted you to know there are others out there! My FH parents want want want but are not giving! They are paying for the rehearsal dinner but we were told it is none of our business as to where it is and they are from out of state so they do not know the area or possible places. IT is none of our business though where and when this dinner is. it does not matter to them that we have not set a time yet for the actual rehearsal! My FMIL thinks this wedding is all about her planning a vacation three states away for her family! Just letting oyu know you are not alone. And we have not gotten a present either. My mother told me recently due to all this tormoil, expect nothing so you will not be disappointed!

You are not at all ungrateful!! Do not even think that!! I know exactly what you mean - i am not looking for any type of present - i was only looking for some acknowledgement - and since it isnt coming from my parents I thought it would come from FHs family - they didnt at all in the beginiing - they definitily have gotten better lately though -

ummmm....I didn't get one gift when we announced our engagement, got a few cards..nothing from our parents. His parents had my family over for a BBQ so they could meet. We are not having an engagement party, we don't feel the need. I was under the assumption you only got gifts IF you had an e-party, and even then it's not REQUIRED.
