I was curious how many people we have on this website that currently do not live in the Long Island (or Tri State) area who are planning an out of town wedding on Long Island like I am.
I will start since I am currently living in Pittsburgh, PA and am planning my wedding in Long Island.
If you are from out of town please list where you are from (and I don't necessarily consider NJ really out of town so much since it is really close..well at least some parts :) ).

Re: Calling all out of town brides?!
I'm from Long Island originally, but I'm currently living in Illinois and my FH is living in Indiana. My mom picked up a lot of the slack for us, but we essentially booked all of our vendors during the week of thanksgiving last year and then made all the final arrangements with them thanksgiving of this year, and everything else has been done from out here in the midwest.

I live in central NJ so although I some consider close I feel pretty out there.....it can easily take me 2 hours to get out to LI - sometimes longer.

Same thing here. On a good day - we can make it in 1.5 hours - but it typically takes us 2 hours to get there....

I live in Philadelphia....FH lives in NJ. We are both from LI originally, and also did a lot over Thanksgiving this year...we're making the most of weekends at home, and my Mom is really picking up the slack as well!

I know its so hard when your like 9 hours away!!!!! Photography is the toughest thing to book!!! I cant go and easily look at portfolios so I partly have to judge my decision and rule out vendors on the price of the product and if its within my budget and the package I get which is tough!

Re: Calling all out of town brides?!
Im from LI but now live in Oregon. Planning from the other side of the country is a PIA! Its not like I can hop a plane randomly and go check things out. Good thing I have a lot of time to plan this! I only get home twice a year though, so I think Im going to have to delegate a whole lot. Luckily I have my mom and my sister still at home who know exactly what I like

Re: Calling all out of town brides?!
I am still on Long Island but FI lives in Virginia (he's from LI) and I plan to move down there sometime before our August 2009 wedding. Right now the planning hasn't been too bad. Sometimes I wish he was here so we could go over some details or look at vendors, etc. Our priest wants to meet with us but that won't happen until January when FI is here next.

Right....you really, really have to be dilligent in your internet research!!!!
Combine living in jersey with FH's work schedule (he works EVERY Monday, Wednesday and Thursday until 9:00 PM and EVERY DAY ON THE WEEKEND until 6)...and you have to make the most of a trip to LI....
I did a TON of research - let me know if anyone needs anything - i'll be very happy to help!!!!

Re: Calling all out of town brides?!
I live in Northern VA (D.C. area). If I would've known what a pain this would be, I would've given more thought to having my wedding down here. Especially now that I'm 2 1/2 months out from the wedding, it's getting harder.

I'm originally from L.I, but live in Boston.... LI Weddings has helped me out tremendously!!!
Right now I am researching hair/makeup people, but it seems that most of the 'popular' vendors are booked :(

Re: Calling all out of town brides?!
I'm from LI but I am planning my Hawaiian wedding from D.C (northern VA) Thank god FMIL lives there and is kinda helping with the vendors. Its hard. We went there to pick the place but that was it. We are just going with the Resort's vendors in most cases....the ones we can afford
