OMG I am so excited right now. I am going to be student teaching in West Islip in September.
I have my interview on Friday and I know its only student teaching but I am sooooo happy and I know (from the woman I spoke with) that I will be asked about the program I am in at Dowling. I am not sure what she wants to hear. Of course all the professors are up on the latest 'buzz words'. We have talked/read/learned all about differentiation, reading/writingn workshop, Calkins, etc. but then of course there is classroom mgmt. , character education, inclusion. I am not sure what to talk about. For some reason this question has me scared. Any advice on an appropriate answer?

differentiated instruction! big time! manipulatives for the younger kids and special education
remember, if you are dealing with special education, use the person first terminology, meaning it isn't the learning disabled kid but the child with a learning disability.
centers!
teachers college, blah! it is hot, but gives me the shivers!

Okay so I am going to re read a lot on differentiation.
I am going to be a Secondary English Teacher, I was thinking of talking about the importance of read alouds at this level. I had an amazing professor at Dowling last semester who talked extensively about read alouds.

It's a very exciting time...and the best part is that you will learn most of your 'teaching stuff' while ST, classes teach everything in theory, and ST is where the practical things come into play.

I loved student teaching!!! It is a great opportunity to show how you can be an invaluable asset to their staff!! I ended up getting hired in the same district, so it worked out great for me.... Dont worry about your interview you will do great... student teaching interviews are really to just make sure you arent complete wierdo... at least that is what my chairperson has told me!! good luck!!
