Maybe it is the time of the year or maybe I am getting that 7 year burn out that I have heard about but I cannot take it!
I used to love middle school but to be honest I am sooooooo sick of the 12 year old drama. Every year it just gets worse! I am sick of gettin upset when I hear about these kids doing sexual things at 12. I am sick of getting upset when I hear about these kids drinking and doing other things at 12!
I am sick of giving up my lunch period to help these kids only to be stabbed in the back and then be called a biatch by their 12 year old punk a sses. Then I have to deal with their parents when the deans gives them detention for saying sexual stuff to each other!
So please some remind me of why I did this to myself! I wish FH made more money so I would not have to work anymore

Re: Can any of my fellow teachers...
You have to remember this one thing: Children, especially those with problems and issues are unstable, and it is your job as a teacher to be as stable and consistent as you can for them. I am a music teacher in a special ed school, and I hear the most awful things screamed in my face every other day, but my demeanor and attitude changes rarely, and my students comment about it all the time. Do they do things that I want to rip their slimey little heads off for? TOTALLY! But they are teens going through a lot and I feel responsible for being that person who is unconditionally there. Actions speak louder than words, and you being there makes a huge difference. Also, take nothing to heart with the bad stuff. Kids lash out sometimes to deal with emotions they don't understand. You sound like a great teacher, keep it up!

swags and rachel, you both sound like really special teachers. stay where you are, you are in the place God chose for you
Melissa (chip) I LOVE reading what you just wrote. I also LOVE writing (and reading), and I felt like I had some of the same teachers .
Does anyone think about Writing to those teachers that had an impact on your life, just drop a little note in an envelope and mail it out to them, imagine the impact you can have on THEM so many years later Chip, those words were so special that you wrote about your teachers...let them know how they touched your life You just inspired me to do something like that (and send it out !) How about it??

Re: Can any of my fellow teachers...
Anna-- Thank you I have thought about it many times. I have went back to thank the many teachers that have inspired me.
Rachel-- The one thing is though I am not in a special school nor do I teach SPED classes this year. These are supposed to be average normal students, except because of teaming and tracking and Foreign Langauge not being viewed as a major, I got all these kids that are 'bad' in my class. On an average day I can deal. I just don't like putting myself out there, way above and beyond what I have to do, only to have this child lie about me and accuse me of being unfair to her when I have went out of my way to help her.
Last year, when I did have a SPED class, I had different expectations for them and you know they were awesome adorable children that I would take over this class on any given day.
Chip-- Thank you so much!!! You really have had the right words!
Thank you everyone for you support! I appreciate it! Now if we could only get the state to believe in supporting education!

Cluelessbride, A Resource room teacher helps students that need extra help in their classes. They go to resource everyday and they don't get credit for it. They do get a grade, but it doesn't get averaged in. The students usually do their homework there, finish tests from other classes (They get extended time on tests), study and work on other stuff. I think the class is usually 8:1. The teacher is kinda like a tutor.

Thanks Buttafli -
So are resource room teachers give more respect or less than classroom teachers? For example, if both wanted to be an Assist. Princ. who would have the better chance?

I don't know how to answer that one for you. To me the RR teachers in my school are my backbone. Whenever I have a problems dealing with a student, that has a LD, RR or not they are always there and willing to help! IMO they are selfless and wonderful.

I teach Resource
Im very upset about theis whole budget too. So much is being lost, and I feel bad for the kids. But I live in the district I teach, and out taxes will go up 16% But I could lose my job. But Im more secure than most of the teachers. Special Ed....we are MANDATED, so we are ok. I HATE PATAKI
swags...i feel your pain...I'm at my 7 year mark...I'm done...
I just heard this recently from the drug/alcohol counselor in my school...since 9/11 there has been a significant increase in requests for psych evaluations...and that many students (esp in our area) are caring less about school...b/c they think that their future is uncertain...
I don't know if this is the reason...or if I am burnt out...but thank goodness DH job change is forcing me to leave the profession!!!

Re: Can any of my fellow teachers...
I could definitely understand how that would effect them. Sadly this group, in one of our elementary schools, is just horrible. They would light fires, set off fireworks, get into fist fights all the time (the parents too), the girls were part of the 'condom club', couple of boys broke into the school on a weekend. Sadly this is what they did in elementary school, imagine what they are doing now! It just seems that each year they come to us with less and less moral values and ethics. That frustrates me!
If you don't mind me asking what are you going to be doing when you leaving teaching?
Diane-- Thank you for being an RR teacher and bless you! Prior to 2001 most students that were RR or had other IEP's we except from Foreign Language, we were never taught how to teach them. When that change took effect it was only the RR teachers that were willing to help. So THANK YOU!
