Can anyone recommend an inexpensive hall
My sister will be getting engaged soon. Her and her fiance really don't have a lot of money. But I know she is dreaming of a beautiful wedding in a nice reception hall. Does anyone have any suggestions on a nice hall with pretty view and good food. Thanks so much.

Can anyone recommend an inexpensive hall
My friend was on a very limited budget and she had her reception at the Port Jeff Country Club. It was a beautiful location, and the food was pretty good too. I know that she paid under $65 per person. It is worth checking out. Good luck! : )

Can anyone recommend an inexpensive hall
The Swan Club is extremely reasonable around the winter into early spring months. It has a wonderful view and beautiful acres to walk on. I also visited the Milleridge Cottage which was nice too and they included the centerpieces and the PLUS was that it is a one affair at a time. Chateau Briand is beautiful! This is where I plan on booking. We got a really good rate for March 2004. Suprisingly, you may think they are off the wall with the rates but they actually aren't that bad and will accomodate your budget. They don't have a view of anything except for the rooms themselves but the food is awesome.

Denisemang: Questions
What do you mean by inexpensive?? There are so many ways to have a inexpensive wedding, of course chosing a inexpensive hall being the first. Just wondering if you shared tips with her on how to cut costs. I recently replied to someone with a very long list on what I'm doing to cut costs. Ours is $70pp at the Watermill (includes tax/tip) in June on a Sat afternoon. If we had picked January, it would have been $58 pp ($45 w/o tax and tip). IMO, I would rather have the quality of the place (service, reputation, food, atmosphere) and exchange it for the time of the year (and day vs. night) that I have the wedding. What are your sister's priorities?? You'd be suprised at what she'll find at reasonable prices.

Exactly. She should be getting engaged this summer. She is thinking of February next year. She will have a day wedding too. I am getting married this May at John Anthonys and am paying $68 pp (before tax and grat.) and I am also having a Sat. afternoon wedding. Can you please share with me some more tips. Thanks so much!

Leonard's and Swan Club (long)
Hi: I went to go see Leonards of Great Neck and they gave me a quote of $75pp(including tax and tip) for a Sunday night in April, May or June. Swan Club was the same but they gave me that price for May only. But I'm sure if your sister went there and asked for March prices, it would be cheaper. Also, I am getting married in May 2004, but have already booked the hall. If your sister is going to have a long engagement like me, she should go look at halls as soon as she can, because she'll be able to get 2002 or 2003 prices for 2004(the prices go up every year). She should also haggle with the hall for different months. For example, my fiancee and I ended up getting March 2003 prices for a May 2004 wedding at Floral Terrace. Most of the reception halls try to be helpful and adjust to your budget, you just have to ask and not settle for the first price. Good Luck :)

We booked a Saturday night reception(July 12, 2003)at Sunset Harbour for $60 pp before tax and tip. Sunset Harbour is located at a marina in Patchogue, LI. The room has a view of the water and boats. It has one wedding at a time. Let me know if you would like more info.

Denisemang...Tips from an old post (LONG)
-guest list of 80 (but only expecting 65-70 ppl) -no wideographer -photographer for only 3 hours, disposable cameras on tables and family member w/ good camera for the rest (they offered). We will either do our own album, or get negatives and do it at another time. -researched (mainly here) A LOT to find best prices. This included visiting many vendors since they don't all give prices over the phone, but call anyway to see if they will. If you have time compare as much as you can. For example, I visited 6 florists until I was happy. -We knew that high centerpieces were out. I told the florists I cannot spend more than $40 per centerpiece (round fish bowl w/ fresh roses and calla lillies), and am not having pieces on the seating card table and the dais (we're having candles and rose petals on the card table and my boquet will be on ours), or a throw away boquet. No need for extras like flowers at our house. -wedding gown from Jessica McClintock $280, they range to about $500 -alterations $150 -shoes DSW, $25 -am only going to be engaged for 6 months, so got a good deal at the Watermill for a Sat afternoon in June -not having bridal party, except flower girls and my sister and his brother as witnesses (eliminates buying gifts for them, boquets, bouts, limos) -no limos (getting married at reception place and flowers are included in the price) -was practical about invites -homemade CDs as favors -DJ $650 -Can you or someone you know do your own hair and makeup? This is where I am splurging, but IMO, the prices are ridiculous. -If all goes well, including our honeymoon, hotel the night of, and wedding bands our wedding should be $12,000. And, we could have saved in other ways, but decided to splurge.

Thank you so much for the tips. She is looking at having a short engagement to, so she should get a good price. I am curious, how did you get your wedding gown so inexpensive? Do you mind telling me where you got it. WOw, I wish I would have talked to you while I was planning my wedding. Now everything is done.

You're welcome, trust me I know how it feels to want a really nice wedding but not being able to afford it, especially after hearing how lavish a wedding on LI can be. People really go crazy, I guess if you have it, why not spend it! I just graduated w/ my masters and got a new job, which finally pays a decent salary, my mother passed away, and even though my father says he will help us, I know that he really can't. And, this is my FH's 2nd wedding, and his parents are retired and have 5 other children so we're not expecting help from them either. We did splurge in certain places, for example we could have waited for a honeymoon. But, we're not going to be in debt and that's important. My dress is Jessica Mcclintock, it's called 'Delilah', if you want to go to www.jessicamcclintock.com and do a search there's a picture. Mine is less traditional (no long train, no lace, strapless), but she has pictures of all of the styles on the website. Mine has embroidery across the chest, and the rest is plain, ivory satin (this makes the alteration prices cheaper). I have heard that even though her prices are so low, the dresses are very good quality. I went to the store in Roosevelt Field, but I think some bridal stores also carry her dresses. Once I placed the order, it only took 10 days to come in from the warehouse in CA!

Besides Swan try the Meadow Club in Pt. Jeff - they include everything from the cake to the centerpieces for under $60. Also, it might not be her taste, but Chateau Le Mer in Lindenhurst ($50ish a head for sat afternoon). If she can swing if offer to pay cash at these places and you will be amazed at how the price drops. Rumor has it the new Holiday Inn in Plainview is supposed to be really nice now (just renovated) and they have rockbottom prices to generate reveue and get word of mouth going. Also a good way to cut dress costs is checking out places via the internet. I got the bridesmaids dresses for $85 cheaper than the store and they arrived 2 months earlier than when the store had promised. Same goes for the gown. Try netbride.com. Invites tell her to go to Party City - they have the same books every major printer has for invites but with 30% off and they throw stuff in for free (I saved $200!). If I think of more I will let you know! Oh headpieces - go to Tri-County Flea Market. Decent stuff for around $70 as opposed to the $300 ones you will see at bridal shops.

I will second Sunset Harbour in Patchogue- I think they charge 70 pp for a Saturday night. Also, Island Hills Golf and Country Club is nice and reasonable (great deck for cocktail hour).

15th and west at the nassau county bar association - 378-1968 - they are not allowed to advertise but I found them to be an interesting affordable choice, i've tasted the food, it's excellent. (garden city).

Sans Souci
I recommend Sans Souci in Sea Cliff (down the road from the Swan Club). It is a small place right on the water. They are not expensive and the centerpieces are included. They are a small place so their max is 180 - I am not sure if you were looking for someplace bigger. Also...For the gown, if you aren't comfortable buying online, try Burtons in Huntington (631-424-3377). (People often talk about their flowers on this board) They sell gowns for much less than retail and they include a headpiece of your choice. The BM dresses are really inexpensive too.
