Can I vent????

I recently graduated St. John's...with honors, and I have ten years working experience prior to going back to school.

Now I am having a really hard time getting a job. I want to do something in media planning or buying, and there is ton of industry software that we NEVER even discussed in school (makes me wonder why I paid $24,000 a year!), and I was not eligible to do an internship b/c I always had a full schedule, even in the summer.

I feel like I will never be able to get my foot in the door b/c I have no experience in this particular field. I even tried to get my foot in the door as a receptionist/AA at a media planning firm, but was told that I did not meet the qualifications

I think I just need to go back to bartending until I graduate Law School..... poor DH... he thought those days were over.

Thank for letting me vent

I did. I started at $21,000. (in 1998) I think I was making about $26,000 when I omved out.

Same here - my start salary was 30K and that was a LOT MORE than many of the other publishing companies were offering for entry level positions, so I was almost overwhelemed by the amount! Obviously I couldn't go out shopping every weekend, but I never did anyway, so we were able to manage between DH and my combined salary. It's all in how you spend ladies.... :)

Anyway - hang in there, something's bound to come up for you with all of your education and experience I wish you luck!

A girl here in my office is sorta in the same boat.

But she's actually interning. Although I don't understand how since she's graduated?

Still I guess she's just happy to gain experience.

i was actually quite willing to do an internship after graduation, but most places require you to be registered at an approved program, and St. John's charges $900 per credit (the internship would be either 3 or 6...most likely 6)! It did not make any sense to me to pay St. John's after I graduated to get internship experience.

it's really so unfair that companies do that - you don't get all the training you need at school yet no one will hire you without it.

Can you do an internship during the day and bartend at night?

I hope something comes through soon!
