Sorry if this is a stupid question, but I'm just not familiar with this at all! I've seen quite a few people doing them. Is it literally the day after? Most people look like their hair and makeup is done again as well. What's the concept behind this, if anyone knows? Help!!

Re: Can Someone Exlain 'Day after' Photos?
Well not necessarily. Most are within a few months to a year and yes you have your hair and makeup done again. I want to do them for a few reasons...(1) i want to wear my gown again (2) I really wanted pics in Manhattan but they werent possible the day of the wedding so we will get dressed up and go do them...hopefully in may

there really isnt one. Some do it b/c they just want more pics, they hate their professional pics or it rained so they didnt get to take pics they would have liked. Also you get to be less dainty as you can sit on the ground and not worry about getting your dress dirty etc.
Personally I wont spend the money, I love my pics tho so I dont know if I would feel differently if I didnt. I think in some aspects they are a waste of money but there are valid reasons for doing them.

there's really not 'significance' to them unless u have a personal reason why....many who are unhappy with their day of photos will do them. my husband and i want to do a shoot this fall....we got married at night in december so we barely have any outdoor shots...while i'm completely head over heals IN LOVE with my photos, we dont have many traditional of just the two of us, or many full length shots of my dress. we figured it would be something fun to do

that seems like way too much work, and too fake for my taste...but someone posted some in the 08 brides today and they are very nice!

I think it started cause people disliked their photographers pics.
But its such a wonderful vanity thing, why not do the whole dress rehersal for just one more day.

i think its a good idea espically if your pics are not exactly what you wanted. I dont think i would personally do it but who knows!!! I think its personal preference especially if you dont get the weather/ locations that you want

I agree with you. I think it takes away from the day you shared. If you want to do it I think it should atleast be the same season. Or really the day after if you have time.
I guess this is what makes the world go round.

i think to each their own---but i personallly loathe the idea of day after pics. it just seems like a waste to me. (sorry if that offends people--JMHO) the ONLY way i can see it, is if your pics were UTTERLY ruined by your photographer and you are so unhappy with them you want to try and do it again. but even in that case---it still would feel weird cause no matter what, its not your wedding day.
for anyone else who just does it to do it---i will never understand it...no matter what anyone says. its like playing dress up or wearing a costume on halloween...you already had the wedding...its done....its over....putting your dress on again & getting hair and make up done for fun and paying $$$$$ to be photographed doing it....yeah...I don't get it. But again, thats JMO

ITA.
I just don't get them... even if your photos weren't drop dead gorgeous... they are of your wedding day... I can understand doing them if your photos were OMG SO HORRIBLE... (personally, big deal... how many are you going to look at on a daily basis...?)
I could never re create them... nor do I want to have that many photos of myself lol
I think they're just becoming another fad.

i think it's few and far between that some people do it 'just to do it'(although yes, there are exceptions ) ...some people really are unhappy with their photos, or couldn't squeeze in time, or had nighttime weddings. Coming from unhappy brides, they feel bad that nothing was captured from the day that they shared..and that's the reason why they do it. I also see nothing wrong with doing it for an anniversary. its something that some couple's find fun..and everyone is different..that's all. to each is own. i think everyone just has to agree to disagree because everyone's situation is different, and everyone feels differently about it. some people think that B-pics are overrated too...'why would someone take sexy photos of themselves when ur husband sees u naked all the time' etc.... i personally think they're a great idea. everyone is different. who cares

I'm sure that there are plenty of things that cause re-shoots to happen...i just don't see why some people plan to do them...JMHO, no offense to anyone!

i agree with u here..i think when u plan a day after shoot in ADVANCE, it's silly. then what are u paying ur photographer for the day of?? lol. but again jmo! an another note, some people plan in advance for a certain location they want and cant do the day of the wedding...who knows - like i said, everyone is different..

I couldn't have said it better myself. It gets to a point where enough is enough. How many photos does a couple need of each other? Epics, wedding pics, day after pics, trash the dress pics... a wedding is ONE DAY.. I dont think theres a rule for 'do-overs'. I don't understand how one day you will open your wedding album for your kids and talk about your day and then open up your day after album and show that.. 'this was the day we wanted to take pictures again in NYC and dress up even though we got married on eastern Long Island'...
sorry.. I know that was harsh.. I hate them. Takes away a piece of the true wedding you shared with your DH IMHO

see now since you pointed this part out taryn..... this is why i have an issue with day afters.....the whole 'well i wanted pics at nite--but we had a day wedding' or 'it rained so i want pics that are sunny' or 'we couldn't afford a summer wedding--had a winter one--now i want pics on a beach.'
sometimes i think that people today are all about getting what they want and they refuse to accept that sometimes things just don't work out the way you want. that's what life is all about! if it rains like crazy on your wedding day---so what!! its okay! that is part of the day and the memory of it. if you couldn't have your fall wedding -- and had a winter one....that is what you had. i just don't understand why people have to 'fix' what they couldn't get in the first place.
i couldn't afford a wedding other than the one i had---winter, february, daytime. would i have loved fall foliage pics? sure! summer pics outside ? yup. but i didn't get that cause that is not that we had. when people do the pics just to do them for 'fun' cause they didn't get what they wanted on the big day (not because their pics were bad -- just to do it) -- i feel like it cheapens the meaning of the wedding pics. i mean do you hang up your day after pic and someone sees it and says 'Wasn't it snowing on your wedding day...um why are you on a beach in this pics?'
like i said--i just wish i could wrap my head around it when it comes to doing it for reasons like that...but i just can't!

Re: Can Someone Exlain 'Day after' Photos?
I planned ahead of time to have a trash the dress wedding shoot with my photographer. She is known for this and I got it thrown in my package. I dont know if this is the same as day after pictures.
I think you should do it if you can get it thrown in your package, i mean why not? You pay so much for one day anyways, now you get to extended it.
I think its great for people who couldn't afford certain things and are paying themselves. I mean your pictures are something you will have forever, so def get everything you want out of your photographer!
I mean everyone is different and has their own ideas but i know alot of people who do the trash the dress and those are the pic's i am sure to look back on and say 'holy **** i was crazy'! lol

honestly... i think it's websites like this one that makes us insecure about our choices...
I had beautiful photos... but looking at OTHER photos, OTHER venues, OTHER cakes.. I found myself rethinking or feeling bad about my choices..
but then I realized I don't have cancer... so I got over it.
but seriously... if we weren't exposed to so much of what OTHER people have, I'm sure most people wouldn't feel the way they do.

i am all for it if people's photos are RUINED...ie: Jenn & pete's photos were 100% blurry when seen to scale... BUT i 100% agree with u here..i do see the sillyness of taking pics on the beach when u had a snowy wedding lol i will say that josh & i are going to do a shoot in the fall/winter of this year...it's an anniversary thing & before i throw my dress in a plastic box, yup - i want to TRASH it and get some really cool photos. maybe it's because i'm a photography *****, and shoot - i'll probably use some for my modeling portfolio lol. but i really am looking forward to it. love my tp photos, they truly captured the emotion of our day, but I barely have any full length portraits of my gown & not many of the two of of together...and yes i want them lol...so for our anniversary, we'll be doing a shoot. my brother's gonna do them - so we're not paying mucho dollars for them...but i do plan on doing some elegant, and then some really crazy makeup/hair, couture style. whatever - i think it'll be fun happy anniversary to me
