Can Someone Exlain 'Day after' Photos?

Original post by allegracristina

Sorry if this is a stupid question, but I'm just not familiar with this at all! I've seen quite a few people doing them. Is it literally the day after? Most people look like their hair and makeup is done again as well. What's the concept behind this, if anyone knows? Help!!

honestly... i think it's websites like this one that makes us insecure about our choices...

I had beautiful photos... but looking at OTHER photos, OTHER venues, OTHER cakes.. I found myself rethinking or feeling bad about my choices..

but then I realized I don't have cancer... so I got over it.

but seriously... if we weren't exposed to so much of what OTHER people have, I'm sure most people wouldn't feel the way they do.

i think you hit the nail on the head with that one. we see so much on this website and what we once thought was good--in comparison to someone else--we end up saying 'crap! i want mine to look BETTER!' i know when i was planning my wedding there were times that i would look at things other ladies were doing and i got sad that i didn't have the same things.

keepin up with the jones' can be exhausting !

i think it's few and far between that some people do it 'just to do it'(although yes, there are exceptions ) ...some people really are unhappy with their photos, or couldn't squeeze in time, or had nighttime weddings.

Taryn I love you but you need to come back to the NW board There are ALOT of people doing day afters for no reason other then they cant get over the fact that their wedding is over.

YES there are people who are doing them for other reasons....but there are MORE doing it for no apparent reason. This is MO, I just dont get the point of them at all~Unless like I said, you HATED your pics from your day and even then I think its still eh to me.

Also, maybe someone can help me with this, we spend so much time before the wedding looking to save money and get things thrown into our packages....but we will spend money on Day after pics just to put our dress on again this is where I think I get lost. People say all the time 5k is too much to spend on a photographer...well you get what you pay for! If you spend 1k on photography dont be mad when your pics stink~KWIM?

Wedding photos are to take photos of the WEDDING.

I can understand wanting to get dressed up and taking photos again - but why call it wedding photos?

If you didn't get married in the summer, then you didn't get married in the summer. Why get all dressed up in wedding attire 6 months later?

IF people want to get all dressed up and take photos, its their choice. But to recreate the wedding 6 months later at a different time and place because you want a nice background seems silly.

I think the only reason I would evem consider this was if my photos were completely ruined. But even then - my family and friends would have enough photos of everything to compensate.

Thanks for all the answers ladies!! I was really confused!! I just could not understand the whole thing. I guess just like everything else, it comes down to personal choice. Unless my photos were lost or ruined, I just couldn't imagine getting all dressed up for a WEDDING again!!! And I'm a pretty big princess!!! (Not to mention getting FH all dressed up again too! Although he LOVES to be suited up.) It just seems way too much for me.

I could however, imagine a fun, romp around in your dress kind of shoot if it were thrown in for free and it were planned ahead. If it were me I would probably throw the dress on and run around somewhere! For all you photography enthusiasts out there, you could plan a concept shoot...Like, do the bride and groom, no makeup, hair down and messy, tie and vest undone...Almost like it IS the day after and they've been partying all night and now it's daytime and they're running off on their honeymoon. I don't know, I'm a nerd. I like photography!!!
