You do it when you normally would do the lighting of the untiy candle, the sand ceremony is to replace that... I don't think your suppose to say anything, but I'm sure you could come up with a little something special to say, while taking turns pouring the sand....
Here's a pic of mine.. I ordered it last week, so I should be Getting it soon!!!!

I just found something

_______ and _______, you have just sealed your relationship by the giving and receiving of rings and the exchange of a kiss, and this covenant is a relationship pledge between two people who agree that they will commit themselves to one another throughout their lives. The most beautiful example of this partnership is the marriage relationship. You have committed here today to share the rest of your lives with each other. Today, this relationship is symbolized through the pouring of these two individual containers of sand one, representing you, _______ and all that you were, all that you are, and all that you will ever be, and the other representing you, _______, and all that you were and all that you are, and all that you will ever be. As these two containers of sand are poured into the third container, the individual containers of sand will no longer exist, but will be joined together as one. Just as these grains of sand can never be separated and poured again into the individual containers, so will your marriage be.

We're doing it! Our pastor came up with most of the wording. It's so nice and since we are having our ceremony outside on the deck overlooking the water we loved the idea... plus our pics will be on the beach and we are having a little bit of a beach theme at our reception so it fits well! And its a nice keepsake at the end.

Re: Can someone explain the sand ceremony to me.

we did it and this is what the minister said, right after the exchange of rings:

Sand Ceremony (Unity Tradition)

Melissa and Sean, you have just sealed your relationship by the giving and receiving of rings. This covenant is a relationship pledge between two people who agree that they will commit themselves to one another for the rest of their lives.

The most beautiful example of this partnership is the marriage relationship. You have committed here today to share the rest of your lives with each other. Today, this relationship is symbolized through the pouring of these two individual containers of sand, into one.

One container representing you, Melissa and all that you were, all that you are, and all that you will ever be.

And the other representing you, Sean, and all that you were and all that you are, and all that you will ever be.

As these two containers of sand are poured into the third container, the individual containers of sand will no longer exist, but will be joined together as one.

Just as these grains of sand can never be separated and poured again into the individual containers again, so will your marriage be.

That's beautiful! I was thinking of doing the hand ceremony, b/c it makes me cry every time I read it But now, I like this too...there are too many decisions when it comes to weddings.

OMG I LOVE THAT!! I dont think my church will go for it because we are having a Ukranian based ceremony, but I really like the reading and the idea all together.

I love the sand ceremony. FH saw it once and thought it was so cool. I don't know if we could do it at our church. We were planning to do the candle ceremony.
