Can this dress be dyed?

I am SO in love w. this dress to wear to a wedding. Every place has it in this gold color, but I wanted it in black.
The website isn't saying what material it is....
It just says its
'Tissue Taffeta tea-length dress. Self gathers accent the shoulder straps and front and back bodice.'

What do u girls think? Do u trust it?

Yeah its so pretty even in this color. But if you really want it in black and cant find it, I am sure you can find a similar dress to this look in black from another designer. I dont know about dying dresses, I have never heard of that

Re: Can this dress be dyed?

The material is Tissue Taffeta. Sorry, I can't tell you whether it can be dyed or not.

They have similar dresses in Macy's right now, it might be worth taking a look. HTH

I don't think taffetta takes dye very well. It's a beautiful dress though.

Re: Can this dress be dyed?

I found this for you

Message: I have a light lavender plaid taffeta top with a solid light lavender taffeta skirt that was previously used as a bridesmaid dress. I want to dye the 2 pc dress black but Im unsure what type of dye to buy and which way is best to get the color dark black. Thanks!!

I can't tell you without more information. What is the fiber content of your outfit?

Silk taffeta is easier to dye than nylon taffeta; acrylic and polyester taffeta dresses are essentially undyeable. See 'About Dyes' to match the correct type of dye to the fiber your dress is made of.

Also, is your outfit washable? You cannot dye anything that is truly dry clean only. If it is washable, and made of a dyeable fiber, the easiest way to dye it a solid color is in the washing machine. The plaid will always show through a little under certain lights, however.

thanks 4 that last comment!
wound up buying the store sample today of the gold. i still wanted it black , but i HAD to have that dress regardless!
they gave it to me for $140 ish BUT it still cost me like $160 w/ tax, which i thought was alot for a store sample...............
they said it COULD NOT be dyed.....but they probably just don't want to be liable if it gets ruined!

If you dye a dress black and sweat, you may end up with color all over yourself and the dress could possibly look spotted. If you spill any liquid on it, you could be SOOL. I'd never dye a dress. Watch what happens if you spill water on dyed shoes.

I don;t think you can dye this dress especially because it is tafetta and has a silky and shiny texture. I have seen the dress in black and a purple in Brooklyn, it is my friends bridesmaids dresses for her wedding. it is absolutely beautiful.. Nice pick

I don't think that taffeta dyes very well. if it were a cotton, i'd so go for it, but that's too risky, at least IMO.

The dress comes in black but the samples I have seen are usually in gold.
