about what we have learned in the process of planning ..to start it for the 2011 brides and even ourselves?
I have learned that no matter how many damn bustle clips you had, your bustle just might fall!
Expect to hear 'it will be hear before you know it!'..a billion times.

I've learned that you should NEVER make any wedding decisions 'in the moment' or out of sheer excitement. Take some time to think about everything and save yourself A LOT of stress!

Re: Can we Start a New Thread
I have learned that if you are an OOT bride you should seriously, seriously consider getting a planner.
I know its too late for me to do but it would have been soooo helpful!
PS I am sure in a few months I will have more to add to this thread.

1. plan your budget out to the last dime! 2. don't list to what other people think - it's your wedding, if you like it then who cares what everyone else thinks! 3. prioritize things... if you really want the $$ photog are you willing to do less expensive invitations or get a dj instead of a band?

I have learned that just because someone does something on LIW it doesnt mean that you have to.
Do research before booking vendors
Have a budget and try to work within it.

1) order more invites than you think. They come out of the woodwork and your parents forget about people.
2) I know a lot of you want the little things like custom menus, table numbers, etc..if you have the budget, go for it, if not NO ONE NOTICESSSSSSSSSSSSS!!!!!!!! They just look at the bride, want top shelf liquor, good music and food.
3) DO what you want..wear what you want. I wore my boots and everyone took a deep breath...made no freaking difference and it looked great it pics.
4) There are people who won't show up. **** it up. Don't let them ruin your day!
5) My motto was no pay no say. Worked for me.
6) Get the pics you want. Not what everyone else wants. Let them pay for a photoshoot if they want something. Give them a window for their must haves..they snooze, too bad.
7) Allow time for some vendors to be late. It happens.

Re: Can we Start a New Thread
I never thought I'd say this, because it annoyed the heck out out of me when people used to say it to me...but don't commit to something like your dress too early in advance. Your style can and WILL change. I don't think theres anything wrong with looking, but buying a dress 2 or more years before your wedding is crazy. I hope I don't piss anyone off by saying that, because I remember being so mad when people said it to me when I first got engaged, but take your time girls! It will be worth it in the end.

Family (related through blood or marriage) can possibly let you down & make you feel as though you are not 'worth the effort'. Its ok, it does not mean that your wedding is less important or that you dont deserve to have a wonderful, special day. Take the way everyone treats you w/a grain of salt. Just worry about how you are treating FH and those that matter to you.

Re: Can we Start a New Thread
1. Dont listen to what others think you should do - and dont let FH listen either. 2. Don't let the vendors tell you how things should be done - tell them how you want it done. 3. Its never too early to start planning! 4. Try not to fight with FH over little things.

I've been going through this - so I think this is an important one!

Re: Can we Start a New Thread
1) Do NOT give family free reign over your guest list. Give them a set number of how many people they can invite.
2) Feel free to listen to people's advice. But, in the end do what YOU and your FH want to do. It is YOUR wedding, not anyone else's.
3) Be prepared to spend more than you budgeted for OR find our general prices of things before creating your budget.

Re: Can we Start a New Thread
Just because you see a lot of girls on here doing lots of little things doesn't mean you have too, sometimes you get wrapped up in the 'wedding stuff'. For example, if I could do it all over again, I would cut out napkins, bpics, grooms cake at RD, wish cards, bathroom baskets, etc. No one notices and I could have saved easily $1k.

Re: Can we Start a New Thread
1. NEGOTIATE, NEGOTIATE, NEGOTIATE!!!!! You will be amazed how much you can get out of vendors when booking.
2. Your Day... Your Way! Don't listen to other's unless what they are saying is actually useful. If you want crazy funky colors that your granma might gasp at... DO IT! You only get married once (hopefully) and don't want to regret anything!
3. Don't sweat the small stuff! Something will go wrong on your day (mine too) let it roll off your back and just remember you are marrying the man of your dreams. Plus I bet 5 years down the line you will laugh at the little hick-ups that are bound to happen
4. People will let you down at times. Shake it off, and move on. Being engaged is a BLAST and it only lasts a short time. Don't let other's take away your happiness.
YAY! I can't believe we are doing this thread already but I love it!

soooooooo true!!!!!!!!!!
i have also learned that wedding planning can bring out an ugly, jealous side of people, and ultimately you are better off knowing this in the end.

Re: Can we Start a New Thread
DEFINITELY, do your research and don't just run out right when you get engaged and try to book everything out of excitement DO YOUR HOMEWORK!
andddd........NEGOTIATE! Put your foot down and tell these people what you want! Don't be shy or 'feel bad' these people need you and want your money and trust me they'll bend as long as you don't!
Thirdly and MOST IMPORTANT, don't stress over the little or 'material' things in life. It's so easy to lose ourselves while we're planning a wedding, just remember this stuff can be fixed!
