Someone we know is pregnant and they do not know the sex of their baby. But the couple's has a feeling it's a boy.
We went to their baby shower this weekend, and there were orange bows on the c-pieces. The mom-to-be saw the bows and got a little flustered, and said 'I don't know how they now soemthing I don't know, I KNOW it's a boy, I can feel it'
Now, taken in and of itself, it's nothing, but that was the 2nd comment the mom-to-be made about having a son, and the dad is just totally convinced its a boy.
So my question is: Do you think people value boy babies over girl babies? The way this family is acting its as if they'd be disappointed if they had a girl.
I'm not TTC yet, but I think about it, and when I do I really - honestly - don't think about the baby's sex.

Re: Can we talk honestly about the sex of a baby?
Yes, having one sex first is really important to some people. If they do have a girl Im sure they will love it to death but they will probably be kinda upset. I had a feeling that Emma was a girl but we didnt find out. As long as the baby is healthy and everyone makes it through delivery ok Im thrilled. That being said I dont think we are going to find out the sex again
I always said I wanted a boy out of convenience~I felt that there would be less to worry about as they were growing up. Now that I am pregnant, I could care less...just asking for healthy baby. Eventually, down the line, I would really really like a boy because my husband is the last male in the family, his name will end. I would like to have a son to keep the name alive. All I ask though are they all to be healthy...

I always thought I'd like to have a girl first because they are more mature sooner, so they could set an example for the rest of the kids.....
honestly, though, it doesnt' matter to me. my parents had two girls, and then two boys....so I might just be used to that mindset...

Re: Can we talk honestly about the sex of a baby?
DH and I totally thought I was having a boy 0 not b/c we prefer one or the other but it was just a feeling........That said we had the sono and its a girl LOL!!!! We're thrilled - so far the sono's show she is healthy and happy in mommy's belly. If my next child is a girl I would not be upset as that is what god has chosen to bless DH and I with.
Its sad that in some families they do value boys over girls....I find it especially in the 'old school' italians. I personally find it sad. A child no matter what the sex is such a blessing. It bothers me so much when I hear stories about people being upset that they didn't get the sex they/family prefer and there are so many couples out there who can't have children and would love to be given the opportunity to have one regardless of sex.

Okay, my husband is kind of a retard he wants two sets of twin boys end of story! I think it's because all his friends have GIRLS (except for one) and he's just being silly. I think he's just teasing his friends that 'didn't have the juice to make boys' ...
I have no preference and not sure I would wnat to know when the time comes.
DH would be a phenominal daddy to a little girl cause I've seen him so sweet & wonderful with friends & relatives daughters ... As opposed to being a BIG KID and troublemaker with boys!

Re: Can we talk honestly about the sex of a baby?
It depends on the family! I know that everyone in my Dh's family would like a girl because everyone keeps on having boys. My parents would like a boy because everyone is having girls and because right now my Dad and my DH are the only two men in the family of 5 women!
Well, when the time comes for us have a child, I don't think I will have a preference, as long as it's healthy!

I think for SOME couples, having a boy as the first child is important to them. It's the oldest and will watch out for the younger ones, it's a family name thing.....who knows. My aunt had 5 girls...they kept trying for a boy, it never happened.
DH thinks we're having all girls, I feel our first will be a boy (when the time comes...) I'd like for the first to be a boy since I come from a family of girls (both my aunt and dad had daughters!)

Re: Can we talk honestly about the sex of a baby?
Some people have it in their heads. I didn't mind either way. My husband kept introducing me as the mother of his son. I told him 'We don't know if we are having a boy' He said I say it's a boy. Well sure enough he was right. God how he loved to brag about that.
I was pregnant along w/ 2 of my friends. Only one girl out of the 3. And believe me her Daddy wasn't all that thrilled. (Sad to say) I kept saying she's going to be Daddy's little girl. he just never seemed happy about it. Very Stupid!!!

Re: Can we talk honestly about the sex of a baby?
I know a family that treats all the girl children like sh*t... it is unfortunate, but it does happen. They have 2 girls and one boy, and it is like the girls do not exist. The father even denied that the first child was even his. It is not the norm, I do not think, but there are still those who think it is more important to have a boy.
MOST people, however, are glad to have a child at all....and even happier to have a healthy child.

Re: Can we talk honestly about the sex of a baby?
When my first was born my husband came into the room and apologized. He said IM sorry. I asked for what, he told me he knew how much I wanted a girl. I still want a girl but I love my boys to death they were both healthy and that is all that mattered to me. I would love to have another, be it boy or girl. At this rate I think another boy would be great and cheaper look at it this way I already have the clothes

I never thought of it that way! Thats very interesting... I like that! I've heard of a lot of people wanting a boy first to protect his younger sister... and also my DH tells me that we 'are not having girls' because he doesnt want to worry about them.... For me as long as I have a baby I will be happy

Re: Can we talk honestly about the sex of a baby?
i guess i see my older sister as the protector of the kids in my family. she was born ans immediately became the responsible one who take care of the rest of us. of course, my parents had 4 kids in under 5 years.....so she was sort of forced into the position.....
I always feel a little badly for families who only have boys....the mother always seems lonely mixed in with all of that testosterone.....

Re: Can we talk honestly about the sex of a baby?
I always said I love little boys and think they are so adorable, but think I would be sad if I never had a daughter either since I am close to my mom. Of course, I think as long as they are healthy it wouldnt matter.
I feel badly for families like mine with only daughters. Poor Dad.

My DH and I want healthy children of course thats what matters, but we just had this convo the other night. He said 'I wouldn't mind if our 1st is a girl'. And I said yes but admit it - you want a boy - don't you! He said yes I do - I want a Jr of me!!!
