Can you believe this...

Original post by CKJ906

Today at work this lady told me she went to a wedding at Fox Hollow (she said it was beautiful ) and she said that she decided to take her daughter instead of her husband b/c he didnt really feel like going.

What would you do if a 3 year old showed up in place of her father? I think it's kinda rude to bring a child you dont know if they want children at the wedding.

do you really think it would phase you at all on the day of your wedding? I really don't and I am sure the woman didn't think she was being rude, she probably thought she was doing the right thing by bringing 2, or 1 and a half, when she rsvp'd for 2.

perhaps the hall recognized that she was a child and gave her a child's portion and she didn't have to pay? no one knows for sure. and ultimately, in the scheme of things, really what difference does it make?

I would be annoyed if it was a young child, but only because I am having no children at the reception. If she called me first and explained, I probably wouldn't be as annoyed. However if it was an older child, I wouldn't have a problem.

personally, i think it is rude when you send an invite to Mr Joe and Mrs Jan, then Mrs. Jan decides to bring someone completely different... that would annoy me...

If FH and I were invited to a wedding and he couldnt make it, i would either go by myself, or not go at all... not ask to bring someone else!

the day of, i probably wouldnt notice and try not to pay attention because no use could come out of worrying about it when it already is the day of...

Sure I would be annoyed. We are not having children at my wedding. I would obviously be PO'd if I saw a 3-year old running around when he/she wasn't invited. The names written on the inner envelope of the invitation are the people I am inviting to come.

Maybe she asked..maybe it was no big deal. The only way it would irk me is if I had no kids at the wedding and turned others down for bringing their kids.

I am the only one who diagrees. I don't see it as it being a big deal. Do you think it stopped the bride from having the time of her life...I seriously doubt it!!!!
I do agree that it was rude, if she didn't ask.

I agree with you. If she called up the bride and asked and she was okay with it, its no big deal. I'm offering baby sitting services for my guest who are bring children. But if the bride did pay for an adult plate and she brings a three yr old without asking first I too would be upset.

I would not be happy at all. Some caterers do not charge for children under 5. Some charge half price for children under 10 or 12. But depending on the season, a price per head for an adult can be a lot of money that when after a final headcount is given, cannot be changed. It is an expense to the hosts of the wedding. I would much rather see that plate of food go to a vendor than to a three year old who would probably spit out chilean sea bass or chicken cordon bleu. JMO. There is no way a three year old would have the appetite of an adult and for sure, food would be wasted. There are plenty of opportunities for life experiences.

I am quite sure the Mother was paying for both plates anyway. What the F*ck is the big deal????? I hope your day goes smooth sailing b/c something like this is mad petty!

Exactly!!!! That is the only thing I would feel bad about. But not b/c it bothers me, but b/c I'd feel bad for my other guest that had to pay for a babysitter!

i'd be ticked off @ my husband.

i think its rude simply because its like an insult to the bride who put in so much work and effort into planning the event and has opted to invite you to this momentous moment - and you don't show because you don't feel like it?? too bad - i would have dragged him there in a head lock!!!
and to boot - you know people would be talking about me if i showed up w/o my husband.

also - i am not inviting children to my wedding (every wedding is different) but i would be upset if one got in (and i don't mean that harshly) but if no one else got to bring their children and you just show up with one - it would annoy me and twist some guests for sure.

actually I went to wedding two weeks ago without my fh. he didn't want to go- didn't really know the people- so I said fine, but I only rsvp'd for myself. it was no skin off my back. I still had a ball and he enjoyed his day. better that than had I dragged him- he would have been miserable and in turn made me miserable....never my idea of fun!
