Can you please share approx how much your RD is per person?

FH's parents have never actually come out and offered to host the dinner, but they HAVE mentioned that 'its tradition that the groom's parents have the RD, right?'

FH has asked his parents about the RD several times - we have to meet with our church to go over the rules before we schedule the rehearsal, and we're trying to determine when to set the rehearsal for. It'll either be the Friday before (1 week before the wedding), but that may make getting a restaurant expensive, or difficult....OR the Monday or Tuesday before (4 or 3 days before the wedding)...

FSIL was married 5 years ago, and because her groom's family is non-existent, FILs hosted the RD at their house with heroes and salads, etc. It was nice for her, but honestly, not at all what FH and I would like for our RD. (The words 'chinese buffet' have been thrown around, too...)

We're only expecting about 22-24 people, so it shouldn't be anything too crazy. We'd prefer to stick with beer, wine, and soda.

It looks like we have to be prepared to pay for this ourselves if we'd like it done a particular way - just to be safe. I'm trying to determine what to budget.

Would anyone mind sharing their price per person, what you're getting, etc?

I'm between Northport and Smithtown, so I'm considering a nice family style meal at La Famiglia in Smithtown (Tuesday night would work out best for this place) or I've heard great things about the Garden Grill in Smithtown, or Nocello's in Northport, or maybe something in the Commack area....I don't know!

Nic-I love La Famiglia! Great choice-it has great food, and it is reasonably priced. Nocello's in Northport-I also love this place, but recently a few of my customers informed me, that it will be turning into a 7-11-but I am not sure when, I would be careful booking with them, in case the deal goes through early. Garden Grill is also very nice, I haven't been there in a while, but I remember, the bathroom being upstairs, so if you have any older guests, that have difficulty climbing stairs, I would suggest opting for another location.

FILs are paying like $24/pp and that includes wine and beer. I cant for the life of me remember the name of the place tho -- its an italian place in Amityville.

Yeah, one of the hotels we're possibly blocking rooms at wanted to charge us $45 a person, not including wine/beer or coffee !!!!!

I told FW that didn't sound right, and I'd check with my people on the Liweddings boards. Shorty Mcbride, thanks for posting this thread before I had the chance to... we're looking around smithtown as well. Unfortunately, it may be a little big, as Bridal party plus parents and dates alone is going to be decent sized.

Does anyone have a good place to recommend that is NOT Italian? We've got Lombardi's for the wedding the next day so we wanted the RD to be a little different...

We arent having one either...im just having everyone get to the chapel an hour early to go over a few things! Its just going to be too crazy...

Hey Nic- we had a big problem with Friday night with many places we looked at, including La Famigilia. We are having about 50 people and we needed to find a good price including some alcohol. We ended up booking at Olio in Commack- apps, salad, pasta, main dish, dessert, beer, wine and soda....$25 pp. That was the best deal we could find. Olio owners also own LaScala in Commack on Motor Parkway (in the Waldbaum shopping center across from the BonWit) and they had a good deal too, we just couldn't get in there until 9pm on a Friday night. (We are having it at 8:30 at Olio's).

If you need any help, let me know! We looked at a lot of places around the Hauppauge/Smithtown/Commack area.

we're definitely going to do the rehearsal on Tuesday 11/20.
BUT that's pasta night at Olio/La Scala/Buona Sera, so we can't use their space!!

I'm really leaning towards La Famiglia now - and FMIL is swaying that way, too!
