I know I am in the minority here but I don't think wearing white to a wedding is a BIG DEAL unless it is a big ball gown. In the end, you know who the bride is. IMO!

hmmm i am part of the minority too! ur not alone.
i dont think its such a big deal. i honestly wouldn't mind if someone wore a whitish color to my wedding.

i agree, as long as it dosent look like a long, flowing wedding dress, i dont really see what the big deal is. maybe its about the symbolism of the color that upsets people? but then again, how many brides are 'pure' anyways, lol.

so I was just thinking about this the other day...and if anyone shows up wearing white at my wedding, the plan is to throw cranberry juice on them. It's the only thing I could think of that would remedy the situation.

I guess I broke the cardinal rule... I wore and ivory dress (short) with gold trim to a friends wedding (the one in my avatar)... it didn't look anything like a wedding dress, so I didn't think twice about it...

Shame on me, i guess?

that's a cute dress!!! but a no no.

its ok, we'll let you slide [wink]

I have two people borrowing it for other weddings, too. One just took i tfor a wedding next week and another is wearing it to a wedding towards the end of August... I guess I should let them know

I'm just being silly. Women are not supposed to wear white to a wedding and your dress wouldn't bother ME per se... but some people take it a lot more serious...

though-- i think it would be more noticible if it were a long gown...

It wouldnt really bother me if someone wore white- but it bothers me that someone wouldn't think maybe this would upset the bride. Its more the selfishness of it. And I understand that some people may not realize or know better.

Here's another story similar... I was shopping in Lord & Taylor in NYC a few weeks ago. The dress racks are right by the dressing room. A woman comes out wearing a very pretty strapless, ivory, lace dress (she was in her late 50's- but very good shape). She asks the sales girl 'do you think I could wear this to my son's wedding?' So, of course my mouth dropped open (I initially thought she might be buying it as a wedding dress!). I interupted and said 'as a future bride, I would say that is wildly inappropriate!' Could you believe- she called her future daughter in law and asked her! And, best part is I think she actually bought the dress!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I think your dress is fine! Very pretty actually! I couldn't have cared less about what people wore to my wedding..as long as they looked neat and clean thats all I cared about!

Re: Cannot believe I forgot to post this!!!!

i have never understood what the big deal is with this. i mean obviously dont wear a long white wedding dress to someone else's wedding but what's the big deal about wearing a cute white dress like the one an earlier bride said she wore to a wedding. it's cute and i don't think there's anything inappropriate about it.

i thinks its very rude and disrespectful for anyone to wear white to a wedding. i would NEVER do that!

at my own wedding, i was too busy to notice that my cousins wife wore an ivory colored dress and one of my girlfriends wore a white and blue dress but it was about 90% white. i'm glad i didnt notice cause it totally would've bugged me all day!

dont they know the rules? no white, no ivory, no eggshell...

and a mother-in-law of the bride should SHOW UP, SHUT UP, and WEAR BEIGE! lol

I think that was my MIL!!!!

JK...kind of. My MIL called me FROM a store dressing room to ask if it was ok to wear a white dress. SHAME on the saleswoman for even showing her that dress!

In the end, DH politely told her that there are a million other colors out there. She wound up wearing champagne.
