Here's another story similar... I was shopping in Lord & Taylor in NYC a few weeks ago. The dress racks are right by the dressing room. A woman comes out wearing a very pretty strapless, ivory, lace dress (she was in her late 50's- but very good shape). She asks the sales girl 'do you think I could wear this to my son's wedding?' So, of course my mouth dropped open (I initially thought she might be buying it as a wedding dress!). I interupted and said 'as a future bride, I would say that is wildly inappropriate!' Could you believe- she called her future daughter in law and asked her! And, best part is I think she actually bought the dress!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Thats nuts! Did the girl say it was okay though?

Personally, I would not wear white to a wedding, but if someone wore white to mine, I doubt I would have noticed or cared. If someone wears a long white beaded gown, they will end up looking foolish. Everyone will still know who the bride is. I don't think it is all that possible to 'upstage' the bride. (Except of course if it is the groom who is doing the upstaging...) The photographer, catering staff, bridal attendant, bridal party, guests and a million other people involved will all be paying 100% attention to the bride and groom and not some random guest who shows up wearing white.

In some cultures the guests wear white to a wedding, including the bride. But It's not like that in mine so I hope no one comes dressed in white but ME.

Some people are so clueless about whats appropriate. I though everybody knew that you don't wear strapless tops/ mini skirts in church but people came to my friends wedding looking like hookers!!
